Also, not everyone in these divisions is "new." We're going into our 7th season. I may spend all day watching at a regular competition when there is nothing else to do. But if my choice is watching youth 1 (no offense to anyone intended, I have just seen my fair share) or going to the Magic Kingdom, Mickey wins.

Spending $2k to go to Orlando and NOT take my 10 & 6 year olds to go see the mouse... yeah right!! My children would never, ever, ever, ever, ever let me live that down.

Here is the scoop! Keep in mind the other 2 day events & the number of bids are still tentative, but the competition is CONFIRMED to take place!

450 teams will receive bids to compete in ONE location​

Offered to Youth, Junior & Senior cheer teams in non-Worlds divisions​

Any idea on when the bid giving comps will be announced and how much the bids are for will be announced?

I want to know how much the competition fees will be going up to cover the cost of this :confused:

However, I like where this is going. I think we can all agree that part of the push to get to level 5 as soon as possible is that athletes can go to Worlds. And in turn, we see some really questionable skills on the floor. I think that if the remaining levels have a comparable event (as this could be) that the push won't be as great. Combine that with a bigger emphasis on execution, and the lower levels could become really interesting over time.

I do have a question for Varsity: Will athletes who are on Worlds team eligible to compete at this event? I can already forsee a sandbagging disaster if so. I can think of one prime example from this past season that could become the norm if these things aren't taken care of now. Will crossovers be allowed? It doesn't just have to be level 5 athletes crossing to lower levels to be sandbagging.... These are the types of details that need to be ironed out before the season really starts, and preferably before rosters are etched in concrete.

I hope they don't allow crossovers. I saw so much of that this year at US Finals. Worlds athletes participating on Level 4 teams.

Exactly. And I can promise that if Varsity does not take care of this potential issue, both with Worlds athletes on any team, and say Senior 4's on youth 2, it will sour A LOT of people very quickly. Trust me, if me, a mom, has thought up the potential, there are probably unscrupulous gym owners out there right now thinking the same thing.

What do you suggest is fair? Gyms don't hold on to the same team every year. Most have to change divsions & levels because of losing kids to college, other gyms, age, advancing skills, etc. Varsity can't require them to take a team in that level if they don't have a team.

Honestly, I don't think you can predict how this will work out. While you and others might choose to stay, there are likely just as many like me, that wouldn't. Unless our gym had teams in these other divisions, me and mine would spend our non-competing time enjoying the parks.

Thats what Im saying you never know what people will do, we cant just hope they dont stay, my kids are 18+ now so Ive been in this a very long time, as well. I pretty much just go to watch them and leave, but it amazes me that we have many of the younger kids and parents at comps all day

They were champions this year...why should the gym get a partial paid for next year's competition based on a team that no longer exists? The kids on whichever team the gym decides to take are benefitting from the work of kids that may not even be there. If my youth 4 team was the all-levels champion this year, I shouldn't have earned a bid for a season that hasn't happened yet.

Good Point. I think they decided to do this based on a business decision to help build the excitement for the competition. It's something they're considering to keep on going throughout "The Summit's" existence. Win a grand champion in your level- automatically entered into next year's competition.

I understand that, but I just don't agree. Even if I was one of the grand champions, I wouldn't like it. I'm a big believer in kids earning things, and this goes against that. I hope this idea of the competition pans out, and is something everyone enjoys.

Is it replacing IALC this year? We were planning to go to the Atlanta one in our competition schedule, are those now cancelled?

I don't have much issue with this. It's good to go to that gym in my opinion....the potential crossover issue is what bothers me.

I understand and mostly agree with you, but the kids could still strive to achieve a full paid bid, since being the previous year's champion only affords a partial paid bid. I think it's a pretty good plan.
