Today, I was on instagram. One of my team members posted something adding the hashtag "#Acecheerleading", so I clicked to see if there were any other posts of my gym. I saw a picture of our logo, but in different colors, it was the exact logo of my gym, the only difference were the colors. I clicked on it, thinking it was something from my gym, but instead saw some words in the Russian language. I clicked on the account, and now I know that there is a gym with the exact name and logo (not copyrighted) as mine IN RUSSIA? I wonder if they thought of the logo and the name or if they somehow saw ours and did the same. I think it's kinda funny, but I just have so many questions lol. This is so strange, such a weird coincidence (coincidence till proven not).

What do you guys think? Any experiences similar? Should I even tell my gym owner?

That's weird. I would bring it up with her.

I'd bring it to the attention of your gym owner; tbh, I can't imagine your logo NOT be copyrighted.

As for the team, I definitely believe in coincidences from time to time, but not like this.

Well even if it's copyrighted (I think it's actually trademarking that you do with logos, but I'm not sure), she said it's in Russian. I don't think her gym owner would get too far trying to enforce a US trademark in Russia.

Side note - you'd be surprised how many gym logos are actually NOT trademarked or copyrighted or whatever you do with them.

That just seems like a weird business practice to me. Though, to be fair, I wish our gym logo wasn't trademarked/copyrighted (whichever it is) because you can't have anyone make you anything with it on it without going through the gym office.

And true, it is Russia---however, I'd still likely want to know about it.

That's scary.

You should bring it up to your owner as it is a copyright issue. There could be legal issues with it and even if there isn't they should still know

I will try to bring it to the attention, or have my mom email him because he doesn't like to get emails from cheerleaders. The logo isn't copyrighted (as far as I know) because my gym is very very small. I can't imagine how they found us because my gym only has 4 teams! This is so strange

(THIS IS A LINK TO A GOOGLE DOC BC PICS WERENT WORKING)
ACE and ace? - Google Docs

The first picture is me in my uniform (drew shot me lol im in love with it). The second is the Russian uniform, and the third is a girl wearing a practice shirt. Our practice shirts are like that but black or blue as the base. Their ACE logo is like ours, but outdated. It's basically how the logo used to be before it updated. You get the point with the STILL SAME logos.

I am guessing the way they found you guys is the same way you found them: Instagram. If you look at their older pictures on Instagram, it looks like their uniforms used to be blue and black without your logo. They most likely found your gym when they hash tagged their own gym in photos. Then thought, "Hey, nice logo!"

The likelihood of you guys ever seeing this team at a competition is incredibly slim. So I think, in this case, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. You guys have a team in Russia who most likely looks up to you, as many other foreign teams look up to US teams. This could be a great opportunity to reach out and form a connection with a team in a country where cheerleading is a fairly new sport!

yeah I just looked at the old posts lol. Oh I'm not mad at all, I find this all really funny but weird.

I would also just point out that the logo is a very basic font that comes installed on every computer with a partial oval. There is a good chance that the logo was a stock option from the uniform company in Russia. There's a good chance that your gym got the logo from a stock logo company. People copy logos all the time, CA for example. However with such a generic logo there is a really good possibility that they have never seen yours at all and you both got it from the same online logo company that is selling it to many companies... or they copied yours and you should be flattered they liked it so much!

Im not sure if this link to the picture will work or not but I posted this picture in Instagram about a year and a half ago. We got these uniforms in 2008 so we had them first. Someone affiliated with this gym (From a different country not sure where) always commented on my gyms Facebook page (Champion Allstars) So after awhile I clicked the guy to see who he was and I see his teams uniforms in one of the pictures! We are Champion Allstars and his gym I don't remember the full name but was something stars. They had the same colors as us and almost exact same uniform. Kind of creepy!

(edited: our uniforms is the picture on the right)

(Not sure how to post the picture if this doesn't work)
