Now that we have the 3 'biggies' over with for the year, I'm curious to hear everyone's opinions on NCA, Cheersport and Indy. What did you like about it? What did you dislike about it, or would like to see changed? Let's use this thread for Jamfest Supernationals only.

Like: That all of our teams won! hehe

Like: The Jambrands rubric and skills required to max out a scoresheet.

Dislike: How expensive it is to stay in a hotel connected to the convention center!! It cost me $100.00 more per night to stay at the Embassy in Indy vs. the Embassy in Dallas. Why is that???

Dislike: How they drag out the awards ceremony! Just announce the teams already!! We've been there all day, adding 30 more minutes to it is NOT appealing!

i suppose you could say time management in general, and this, IMO, applies to all jamfest events. for example, we were supposed to be competing at jamlive in pittsburgh. although it got cancelled due to weather, my team was originally supposed to compete at 10:50 at night. now i don't know about everyone else, but for me, i am definitely not in a state to compete at 10:50 at night. and we still had awards after that. if your event is that big, get a bigger venue, spread it out other more days, do something. having teams competing until 11 at night isn't a good alternative.

I did not like scoring. Every division was very inconsistent and many scores did not align. Not sure how a level 5 pyramid can score a 6.5 with four level 5 inversions and two level 5 release moves (Multiple level 5 pyramids, at least in the small all-girl division, scored a 6.5). The past is the past and I refuse to get mad about scores again but I just felt almost every division was inconsistent.

I'm not completely proficient in the whole technical side of scoring, but I think Jamfest has changed their scoring over the years to make it more fair. I remember one year I was on a youth team and people were very upset because we got grand champion and an unreasonably high score because our scoresheet was so easy to max out. With the system they have now, it kind of skews the scores so level 4 and 5 teams get higher scores than tiny level 1 teams.

Like-
It's only 45 minutes away from my town, so none of our team has to pay for a hotel either day.
Getting to compete twice gives us more motivation
The mall is attatched to the convention center!
Multiple halls for competing result in less schedule back-up

Dislike-
The awards always take SO LONG because of the dance party and music they always have beforehand.
When gyms take their level 5 teams and bring them down to level 2 or 3 just to secure a paid bid to US Finals- they need to make some kind of rule preventing this

Love that it is free for spectators :)
like the location- connected to the mall so you can eat in the food court
Like that hotels are connected, but dislike the cost of the hotels. It's outrageous the cost of a hotel connected, when you can literally walk across the street and pay half the price.
I also like that we can go right up front to the stage when teams are performing, i love being able to see their faces so close while they are performing.

Loved the free admission! :) and the majors, that was incredible!
hated the score sheets... our team placed 2nd, but the first place team had the simplist routine possibe. they held their pyramid for and 8 count, switched body positions for another 8 count... held again... so easy!

like: how the stage is set up with the smoke and lights! they deffinetly made less smoke/fog while coming out on the stage this year, last year it was so much! i also like how they do the award session. the warm up room is also a good room!

dislike: the scoring! the unfair judges! i didnt like all of the halls either. i liked have all of them connected including the awards one.

Question - and this is a sincere question.... Do the people complaining about scores know how to hit their requirements/rubric? My routines were created to hit the Jam Brands scoresheets and I had consistence scoring with successful results all year....

To those who do not like the scoring.... Were you being mis scored on the difficulty or execution side of it?

You beat me to it. This is exactly what I was going to ask.

Ditto, the JamBrands scoring is very clear cut. You just have to study it to know how to max out difficulty in each area. It is really all there in black and white. I love the scoring system since they have re-vamped it!

Same here. Knowing that system changed our game completely and we definitely got consistent scores at Jambrands events this year.

Love how well written the scoresheet is, the venue, and location. It's very easy to find things to do and the mall connected is perfect!

Dislike how spread out levels were. I would love to see level 5 in a different hall than level 2.
