I was recently forwarded an email from an event producer asking what is the best way for them to distribute Worlds bids. What do you think?

I think highest scores.

BUT

Only if you start requiring males to truly coed stunt and get a good score that way. Men in group stunting has always been a little silly to me.

I think they should be given to the highest placing teams in each division...
If you have 8 paid bids they would go to the 1st place winners of each of the respective Worlds divisions. Partials and At-Larges given to those placing 2nd or 3rd. If an event only has 3 paid bids then they should go to the top 3 highest scores overall in the Level 5 division (like grand champions).

Would you say that is essentially what Cheersport does?

How do you decide who's the best?
I would never speak on behalf of cheersport.

I would personally decide by the "eyeball test." This means when I watch all of the worlds eligible teams I rank them according to who I think is better. No scores, no debating small vs. large or coed vs. all girl or 1st place in a weak division vs. 3rd in a packed division. WHO IS THE BEST TEAM?

How about if I you if you like Cheersport's method the most because it is essentially what you described?

Here is what I sent UCA when they asked for opinions from all the coaches that attended their event. I did borrow the main part of the idea from our allstar director, Roger. But I threw in my own top 3 thing.

Generally, Paid Bids are awarded to the highest scoring winners of divisions. However, it is up to the discretion of the EP to award a Paid Bid to a team that has showed excellence in their own division finishing in the top 3 (since you are giving top 3 medals now) if they so choose.

The BEST teams get them. Regardless of division, score, or whatever.

So hypothetically speaking only an event producer has Rays, CEA, Charlotte, Georgia and Top Gun competing in bid divisions. All already have bids from other producers. They dont need to upgrade. They clearly by your assessement lets say are the best teams, and the best that day. What happens to the bids? Is the event producer simply out of the money he/she invested for the opportunity to be able to offer bids? Or by giving to teams not deemed "the best" are they guilty in your estimation of watering down the talent at worlds?

I would say they should go to who you feel would represent your company the best. If I know that Susie's team has no chances of competing with the top 15 teams in a division, why should i put MY name on them and say I picked them. You can have a bad weekend, and still be the best team. Winning one competition shouldnt be the sole reason for a paid bid.

If all Worlds teams are judged by the same panel, I say highest scores, regardless of division. If they are scored by different panels, I say highest scoring division winners

Then the next "best" team would receive a bid. And for the record I don't believe I have said anyone is watering down the talent at worlds.

If you would like a real life example see UCA nationals and Orlando Allstars. I would definitely say they were one of the "best" teams at UCA and did not receive a bid due to the EP's bid process. I certainly do not think that OA will dilute the talent level at worlds.

Well to start off all teams going for a worlds bid should be judged by the scoresheet that will be used at worlds, which means the USASF needs to have the worlds scoresheets out before the competition season starts. This in my opinion is crucial for deciding who to give a bid to because they need to be able to prove they measure up to the scoresheet they will use at worlds.

If they are being judged fairly by those scoresheets then the paid bids should go to the teams with the highest scores. I do not necessarily think that division winners should automatically receive a paid bid, I think that a team who placed second but still has a higher score then a first place team then they deserve it. ** This would only work if they are judged by the same panel ** If they are done by different panels (which I do not like) then the division winners first and if they already have a paid bid then go with the next highest score (not necessarily in the same division).
*If a company just gives out Partial Paid bids they would follow the same process*

At-Large bids would then go to the rest of the top scoring teams. My problem is teams getting an at large but placing 10th out of 11 teams. I am going to assume that all bid seeking teams will be using the same panel so I would say that the top scoring teams should receive the bids BUT you must place in the top of your division (use a percent depending on how many are in the division). **I am actually not sure how to do this if different panels are used because I can't figure out a fair way right this moment**

Like others have said: if the Worlds scoresheet is released before competition, every EP MUST use that for their worlds teams, then top scores if all judged by same panel, if not, top team of each division. Heck, if you wanna throw a score minimum criteria on there, be my guest. It would help if the Worlds scoresheet were some mix of whatever scoresheet we sort-of 'developed' on here- the one that was a mix of NCA/Cheersport. I liked that one..
