All-Star 2011 Worlds ... Gymnastics That Is.

I would agree with you, but the code of points has changed since then. It was lowered to where 15s are now the higher scores and a 16 is outstanding. Similar to the change of COP from 2005 to 2006 where there became no perfect 10.0s, the code changed in 2009 for the new quadrennium (09-12), to lower the amount of skills and difficulty in routines, adding more compulsory skills. Which would be why more girls are throwing double tucks and double pikes on floor rather than all of the crazy tumbling passes of 2008. It isn't embarrassing on behalf of the gymnasts, but rather a different scoring code. You'll notice the drop in scores from 2008 to 2009 if you watch the Covergirl Classic of '09. They even explain the change in code during that competition, I believe the announcers did.

Hope that was helpful. :)

that's what I thought. I didn't pay much attention to gym in 09 or even 2010, as it's not shown much here in those times (a lot more is shown leading up to the Olympics), and I can't be bothered to look up every little detail after every gymnastics meet. thanks! :)
I was wondering how a score of 15.7 could possibly be in first place on UB :P

a few things I have to say about these World championships so far:
1. SO excited Peng Peng (I believe it was her) made the AA final.
2. He Kexin really needs to ditch that stupid release combination, I understand it gives her huge difficulty, but it's ugly, inconsistent, and it kills her momentum.
3. on that note, it's a damn shame He Kexin didn't qualify for EF, if she hits that routine, she could so easily win. I know she's training a new routine for the Olympics with a 7.6 difficulty, so we'll see how that pans out!
4. CONGRATS to the USA! I hate that Alicia wasn't on that podium, but glad that her surgery went well. Sounds like Jordyn had a better day than she did in qualifications (although she was 2nd all around, she wasn't as good as usual)
5. Jinnan Yao has become one of my new favourite gymnasts.. her beam is GORGEOUS
6. Catalina Ponor is killing me, her form on beam has become TERRIBLE, though I'm glad to see she's actually competing a decent vault, her DTY used to be horrendous.

Ha, no problem.

I remember when the code first changed and all the scores were so much lower, I was so confused. It changes so much.

THANK YOU!!! I have honestly never found her beam very pretty. Yet, people are so obsessed with it! And she has the weirdest flow from skill to skill.

@GVAG_bradyelizabeth do you know if the universal sports website is putting the women's team finals on demand? I can't wait til saturday to watch it!

at this point it's $20 for the on demand universal sports coverage. but they are posting certain routine videos for free so keep checking. I'm sure YouTube will also have soon footage floating around soon.

Awesome. There was no way I was waking up at 6am to watch. But I have no problem wasting my whole night after work watching it.

hahaha, yeah I'm a pretty big cheer fan.

But I'm a VERY big gymnastics fan. Not obsessed...just dedicated. :)

also a huge change in that is in the 2008 quadrennium they counted your 10 best skills, now i believe they only count your top 8 skills, which if you take out 2 C or D elements, your start value is already .6 - .8 lower than before.
