I was talking to someone whose on a college team who attends UCA college nationals and she told me UCA is not receiving tapes for bids this year..is this true? I was told UCA is going to look back the past 7 years and go by those placements/scores. IMO this is a little ridiculous especially because those are almost all entirely different teams than the 11-12 team. Unfortunately, for this specific college they have placed very well the past few years, but their one 10th place caused them their paid bid :( Just curious if anyone knew more about this! I was also curious what this meant for colleges attending UCA College Nationals for the first time.
Yes this is how they did it but they didn't go back 7 years they only went back 3. They are going to change it again for next year according to their release so things will probably be more then. I personally prefer it this way because it seems that it will eventually be done the same way NCA hands out their bids (at camp) which personally I feel is the fair way to go because a tape can make that team look a lot different then they will look when they take the mat in Orlando. With editing and only filming things that hit constantly it can make a bad team look good. Here is the release that UCA posted online: http://www.uca.varsity.com/college_bids.aspx
And here is the thread where it is sort of talked about:

Thanks sista-I'm a ZTA sister too ;) haha Now that I actually understand the entire process, it seems like they are just trying new ways to go about the bidding...I also agree that at camp is probably the most accurate way to assess a team and determine bids. Thank you SO much for posting both links-I apologize for not searching about it ahead of time...I have been off of the boards since worlds I think? haha It's good to be back..now I just need to start cheering again and I will be even happier! :)
Im really curious to as why you think UK was robbed. Please do explain! :)

Second, i was there and saw it all happen. I also saw comments and score sheets. Comments from judges included references to stunts that didn't even take place. I also saw scores recorded, crossed out and lowered by 1 point on one particular score sheet. So, in my opinion that's how UK got robbed.
Third, did Bama hit? Yup they did, in a very vanilla routine. UK took chances, hit much harder stunts and had a fall in the middle of the TV screen on a tumble (should be a minor deduction).
@UKCheerdad
First, I did hear that there were comments to stunts not performed and this is never a good thing for a team or for the organization doing the judging. However, UCA judges frequently cross out scores and change them and will initial by the area...they would be up there for hours longer after the final team if they had to rewrite every score sheet for any corrections they needed to make.
Second, a "vanilla" routine?...Bama did throw 4 cupie full arounds which was the first time that was performed and both squads threw a front handspring variation...(UK did pull theirs to arabesque), but the stunt scores would have been extremely close between the 2 squads especially with Bama probably scoring higher on their "ime" stunt by doing a fullup and a hands full around compared to the fullup pull through by UK.
Third, UCA had the cameras on both teams for several reasons. The number 1 reason is they edit the show every year after the competition before it airs on ESPN and with their being a "new" team that won and an extremely close competition why wouldn't the producers want to show both reactions and create good tv.
Finally, why would UCA care who wins? All of the top teams in the division that place top 5 are already getting a paid bid so UCA is not going to lose them to NCA (which they already own). So why would they care who wins?

thankyou (:Im going to stick my nose in this one. First, Mightymouse you seem to be very sensitive and angry. You have a real edge to your comments to both KentuckyGirl and LaughaLittle. That bothers me.

Its pretty apparent the last four years that UCA wanted someone else to win other than UK, they got that this year. Bama winning creates drama for this year, which in turn creates interest, which in turn creates TV ratings. Why do you think that for the first time, UCA had cameras on the top two squads - in their faces - for the announcement and then interviewed RM as soon as they heard Bama won - DRAMA!!!!!!
Don't be fooled by a naive assertion that UCA is as pure as the driven snow.
