Re: Rio I just hope Simone is as good or better as she is now by that time - it would be so tragic for her to be so amazing all this time and not get the Olympic glory she deserves - I hate when birthdates have more of an effect on the Olympic results of these girls than all their hard work and talent.

And can we please put at least one graceful and flexibile gymnast on the team (I know Simone is flexible but she doesn't count cause power is her bigger strength) so we don't look like all power and skills and no grace and artistry compared to the other countries :/. They have to hate that about us.
 
Biles announced today she has gone pro and given up amateur status. I don't blame her.

She committed to UCLA last year (?) - are there any repercussions if you commit to a team and then give up amateur status/eligibility? So many gymnasts commit to colleges in their early teens I always wondered what kind of commitment they make? Is there a contract or is it just verbal intent?

Just verbal. Happens allllll the time in baseball, since players can be drafted right out of high school. You can offer the good ones and most will make a commitment, but go ahead and assume the REALLY good ones won't see campus. Nothing is final until you've signed the letter of intent.

Hockey, too. Boston College even had a kid come to ORIENTATION last year before he was like uh nah bye and signed with an Ontario Hockey League major junior team.

I'm sure that ends up happening with baseball too, since the draft isn't until June (I think around the same time the NHL draft is held?) So many high schoolers get drafted into the minors they changed the name of the draft from the MLB Draft to the "First Year Player Draft"

Good Lord. And the fact that her coach is clapping disturbs me.

I wouldn't expect this rushing mentality to make it to elite level gymnastics. Shocking. Like, it wasn't even mediocre technique.

It was a disaster.

I think his clapping was more for distraction than happiness. That looked so painful!
 
That girl who came in second in that side handstand contest....... So glad they gave her some recognition because danggggggg.

There's been a lot of mistakes so far. But Nia(? missed her whole name) in the purple leo was getting some serious air time on bars wow!
 
Ok I'm going to pretend today didn't happen and also pretend I'm Marta and pick my Worlds seven. (It is seven, right?)
