I mean it's not like Russia/USSR has a history of making injured gymnasts compete with horrific results...
"Thank God, I won't be going to the Olympics."

For anyone to say this after endless hours of training in the gym goes to show how much pressure was placed on her. The Thomas Salto incident was completely preventable, what a tragic end to such a phenomenal gymnast... let's just hope this doesn't happen in modern day Russia.

I would say Mustafina will be in Glasgow but only as alternative to help the team psychological (hope I got the right word) also Martha put list for US which can change but no Bailie Key on the team which is a surprise.

also Laney is doing 3.5 twist on floor which is good

USA Nominative Worlds Roster (subject to change, also seven listed here and only six can go)
Aly Raisman
MyKayla Skinner
Maggie Nichols
Gabby Douglas
Simone Biles
Madison Kocian
Brenna Dowell

Will be finalized at camp in early October.

I hate it for Kyla and I'm sad for her....but she had a good run... It must be hard to be the one that stayed in the gym since 2012.... but life isn't fair and things happen

Anyway I'm not personally disappointed to not see her on the list

Also my guess is that Brenna Dowell gets the axe again

Same. The one I'm most surprised to see off the list is Bailie, more so than Kyla. My other pick for alternate is Kocian, since she's kind of a specialist. But she's so good on bars Marta probably wants to put her out there against the best.

Swap Bailie Key for Madison Kocian and make Maggie Nichols the alternate and that's my dream team. I think Nichols would be the most likely alternate with that team because I don't think she's top 3 on any of her events

Nichols is a good all arounder though, right?

Of all of them Kocian is my favorite because she is the most elegant. It annoys me that all of them on that list are all big skills and power and there isn't anyone that can actually dance - many of them can't even hit 180 splits in their leaps and jumps. I guess we win everything and that's what it's all about, but when you compare us to the Russians and Romanians, our country really is missing the artistic part of artistic gymnastics. I always say this, but I miss Nastia ;).

Judging from these photos, which were posted recently on the Romanian Women's Gymnastics Squad's Facebook page, Ponor is out for the Romanian National Championships this weekend (selection for Worlds)... which means we probably won't be seeing her at Worlds this time round. A real pity, I've been looking forward all week to watch her routines.

She is out for 10 days with just a small injury but is not even considering not competing in Glasgow.

Nichols is a good all arounder, but in the Team Final I don't think she's very useful. Except for maybe on vault, but apparently Dowell and Douglas have their Amanars back so not really even there if that's true. she doesn't really have a standout event so I would see her being the alternate if the nominative list is the real team.

I don't think the US is missing artistry. All of the girls on the nominative team definitely hit their splits/leaps except for Skinner sometimes. It's just a different style in comparison to the Russians/Romanians. Also, in my opinion, Russian artistry is not what it used to be. Mustafina's last floor routine was awful and Afanasyeva's one at the Russian Cup wasn't great either. Lots of Russians also have tons of form/execution errors that are worse than one or two athletes not being able to hit splits

WHY NO BAILIE KEY WHAT SO CONFUSED NO BAD WHY

I'm so salty. SAL-TY.

Dowell and Raisman have issues hitting splits too. I know they are making up for it in other ways (Aly has off the charts difficultly in her timbling), but I think if it gets you a dediction in level 7, elites should be able to do it. It's almost like a level 5 team doing a level 3 dismount out of a ball up 360 stunt ;).

Kyla officially decided not to attend selection camp, taking her out of the running for Worlds. (she wouldn't have made it anyway, but this makes it official)
