It's that fifth spot that gets me. I'd LOVE to see one of my jersey girls on the team... I do think Laurie would be chosen over Jazmyn if one of them were to be selected since they usually go 1-2 with Laurie prevailing in junior competitions. I don't think Norah is quite ready (as of today, that could change come olympic trials.) For the last 3 years I've been pulling for Bailie to be on that team, but to date, I don't see Marta/committee selecting her. She's a great gymnast but IMO, doesn't have one standout event or skill to really give her an edge over the other equally as amazing gymnasts. IDK. I'm excited (and terrified) to see how it all plays out over the next few months.

Gabby-Simone-Laurie are the 3 I care about making it. (I'm going to be real. It would be amazing to have a heavily "diverse " team)


Aly is who I expect to make it

Maggie and Jazmine (either one) are the 2 I don't mind having one make it

I'm emotionally attached to Maggie for some reason and I hope she makes it, but I would be thrilled to see Laurie, Simone, and Gabby right there with her. Aly was looking great and Marta loves her so provided no injuries, I'd say Aly is a shoo-in.

If we could just go back to 6 person teams and I could have Laurie and Jazmyn I'd be the happiest. Oh well.
 
I also think that no matter who goes....USA will take Gold. McKayla Skinner, Madison Kocian...Brenna... If something happened and they all had to go...Team USA would still get Gold...it might be close...but I believe they could still do it

I don't want to sound over confident, but after worlds....unless China has some 11 year olds that became eligible this year (see what I did)....I just don't see anyone beating them.

also question about this commercial probably for @cheerKT because she's most knowledgable in collegiate eligibility... would this not count as endorsements and take away her amateur status? I believe she committed to Oklahoma.. so would you just not take compensation for being in the advertising? or are you allowed, you just can't be contracted?

Is the University of Oklahoma an UA school? I think they are. I wonder if that matters as well.

I'm assuming Gabby, Aly and Simone weren't part of this because of their ago affiliation

I also had to smile at the fact that the 3 girls in this ad very well may not make the team and all 3 of them definitely won't make it

UA sponsors Team USA so they're good because they're on the national team.
 
Even if USA send two teams to the Olympics they would go Gold - Silver. :D
 
blaah because it's Sunday:

updated Rio prediction time:

Simone Biles, Maggie Nichols, Madison Kocian, Norah Flatley, Laurie Hernandez.

Alternates: Bailie Key, MyKayla Skinner. (Going with the 2012 logic that 'it's insulting to have past Olympians as alternates')

Rationale: I think Nichols is a more solid and consistent all-arounder than Gabby Douglas. Had she done the all-around in qualification at Worlds there is a very very good chance that she would have bumped Douglas out of the final, plus she was the only gymnast Marta put on all four events in the team final. (Had her performance in the team final been in the qualification round, she would have been in second behind Biles.) She scored higher than Aly Raisman on floor and managed to snag bronze in the floor final. Love Aly to pieces (and holy hannah has she improved on bars), but I don't see her being useful in terms of winning individual medals. Kocian is reigning champion on bars, so we know she can hang (pun very intended) in that department internationally. She's upgraded her beam as well. Flatley is incredible on beam. Hernandez is junior AA champion and could feasibly do the AA in qualifying as well.

Fantasy finals lineup:

Floor: Biles, Nichols, Hernandez
Beam: Biles, Flatley, Kocian/Nichols
Bars: Kocian, Nichols/Flatley, Hernandez
Vault: Biles, Nichols, Hernandez

Potential individual medals:
AA: Biles, Nichols
Beam: Biles, Flatley
Bars: Kocian
Vault: Biles
Floor: Biles, Nichols

I mean, either way, we win gold.
 
Predictions for the American Cup this weekend?

I'm thinking Maggie and Gabby will go 1 and 2
