Personally I am not a fan of the fact Musty only throws three tumbling passes, but normally she makes up for it with her dance. Today her dance was sloppy and IMO was overscored. Mykayla did say in her interview that this has inspired her to really work on her execution and dance, so hopefully she will be back even stronger next year.

I haven't watched beam yet. I read Iordache fell and couldn't bring myself to watch it. I will say I don't understand how you can medal without having a flight series, but that's none of my business *Kermit sips tea*
Musty lol. Thank goodness I know how to pronounce her name, but if I didn't....lol.

I think Mustafina is a beautiful gymnast, I really do. She's one of my favorite non-US girls. But I will NEVER get over her legs in her spins. I realize she favors it due to her ACL tear in 2011 and that's just the way it's going to be, but it just bothers me so much. Her legs look like a double helix.

And I am such a Iordache fan girl. I was so happy she was finally able to put four solid routines together for All Around. And I was actually out at a bar last night when my friend texted me about her fall on beam and I had the biggest -____- face on afterwards. I seriously had strangers asking me what was wrong, lol

I just love Simone. I am super concerned that she has peaked and am hoping she can keep the ride going for the next 2 years. I didn't realize she was going to be 18. Kyla has always been one of my favorites - she has managed to work through her growth spurt so well. I would say she is closer to 5'5" than 5'2" looking at group pictures.

I love Simone too! I don't think she's peaked just yet. She seems to be in fantastic shape and does so much difficulty with ease. Her coach seems really smart about pacing and having her only do skills she can do safely because I'm sure she is capable of much more difficult skills/routines. Which is crazy because she already has so much difficulty in her routines. I love Kyla too and I hope she can recover well from her injuries and can start putting in upgrades!

Simone is so good she could be a little off peak and still win gold ;). Her power is amazing. My CP's theory watching her is that she's probably an amazing natural talent who went from brand new to gymnastics to doing level 9 skills w/in a year's time and the first time she ever tried a standing tuck it was 6 feet high cause her power is just off the charts ;). Does anyone know her history - like what age she was when she started gymnastics, when did she become elite, etc.?

When Simone was six years old, she went on a daycare field trip to Bannon's Gymnastix. She was having fun and started copying other gymnasts in the back of the gym. One of the coaches, Ms. Ronnie saw her and told Coach Aimee. They sent a letter home to her parents. Simone started taking recreational classes and the rest is history.

As a level 8 gymnast in 2007, Simone finished 24th in the all-around and sixth on vault at the State Championships. She moved up to level 9 in 2008. At the South Padre Extravaganza, Simone won the all-around title as well as first on vault and floor exercise. She placed second in the all-around and first on floor exercise at the Region 3 Championships. She qualified to the Western Nationals where she finished 16th overall as well as fourth on vault and eighth on floor exercise.

So level 8 at 10 after 4 years of gymnastics, level 9 at 11

Thanks for posting. Very interesting. Actually not the extremely fast path my CP predicted. Also looks like she didn't win every meet she ever competed in w/ a 39 like my CP predicted. It's actually kind of inspiring, and it could be that her power actually developed as she grew older. Or maybe she could always do that amazing stuff on floor and vault and it took her a few years to refine her beam and bars.

I am VERY interested to see Komova back in action. Anyone know her new estimated return date? I know she was trying for this Worlds but it didn't quite work out.

She won bars on Russian nationals this year. She didn't go to worlds because you have to do at least two events for going to Worlds and she only was ready on bars. I'm sure she will be back next year but I think her best form was in London 2012 and I dobut she will do all around if she makes it to Rio. (which I would love her to watch in Rio ) It was heartbreaking watching her cry in London. And I don't think she is a crybaby. Russians leave their families at young age when they make it to the national team and they train in Round Lake. Can you imagine leaving your families and friends, training every single days for 5-8 hours for Olympics and then fail when it counted the most. She is graceful, beautiful to watch and her D score was the highest for AA in London. I would cry like a baby too. She was 16 at that time and it was the second time she lost her gold medal. (she was second at worlds 2011). IMO she was best All arounder in London it just wasn't her day and Gabby was lucky. Just like valut finals, you can't say Izbasa was best valunter in London. Marooney was. She was just unlucky. Russians have very rough training, they cry a lot and they are mentally very weak (except Aliya, she is mentally strong ) and thanks god for Mustafina in Round Lake. Watch some of their training videos and you will understand what I am talking about She is such an amazing leader and girls would failed every competition if they wouldn't have her a leader. And about her bronze on foor in Nanning. Don't get me wrong she is the Queen for me but she didn't deserve it. She is clearly favorited by the judges. She didn't got any dedution for her landings even if she hopped after every landing. Same story with her turns.

Also I am so freaking happy for my girl Larisa Iordache. I wanted her on the AA podium so bad and she is in her best form right now. Hope she only gets better until Rio.

And this was probably last Worlds for Kyla. Next year with Pre-olympics year with Aly, McKayla and Gaby back it will be hard to make the team.

Thanks for the info about Komova. I wasn't aware she was back at competitions at all. I hope she makes a big of a comeback as she can. I feel the same about Aly, Gabby and potentially even Maroney that you do about her. I think they hit their peaks in 2012 and a full comeback to Olympic strength after over two years off seems slim. Of course, I hope they prove me wrong. But that, coupled with the talented juniors aging in will make a second Olympics a pretty tall task for any of them.

I can't argue that Komova wasn't the best all around in 2012 but she didn't come through in the clutch. Gabby did, and I'm not sure that was just luck. Same with Maroney's vault. I don't necessarily think she was unlucky, I think she made a conscious decision to put an exclamation point on her vault by not allowed herself to step, so she sat it down instead.

I can definitely see that with Mustafina though. It's easy to see why the younger Russian girls look up to her. I was ok with her floor bronze at first, but the more I rewatch it the more I'm starting to think that should have gone to Skinner. She probably was favored a little for her name and for her more "artistic" style (which the judges love to see I'm sure) but the big difference to me was in difficulty and landings, and Skinner clearly had the edge in both of those categories.

I'll cry if she makes the Olympic team, she's amazing.

Apparently Komova suffered an ankle injury as well, which was one of the issues that contributed to her absence at Worlds this year. Except on uneven bars, you can't perform much if you have any injury from the waist down.

As quoted from International Gymnast Magazine Online - Russian Teams Finalized for Nanning Worlds
"Injuries have left Olympic medalists Ksenia Afanasyeva, Viktoria Komova and Maria Paseka out of the competition. According to national coach Valentina Rodionenko, doctors confirmed both Afanasyeva and Komova were not yet ready to compete after ankle injuries, while Paseka suffered a last-minute ankle sprain, Rodionenko said."

Yes Komova is back. This is her beam routine before she had an ankle injury. And after her ankle injury she started training again at did bars at Russian cup where she won. She is fine now she just wasn't ready at two events.

She looks gorgeous on bars. Look at those legs.
And if anyone wonder how russian training looks like, here is the documentary about it and I really like it.
