I think that's the best choice for Jordyn. She had an awesome career and you can't really go up from olympic gold so why set yourself up for defeat?

Interested to see Gabby and Aly in action. I don't see any of them making it onto the olympic floor. **maybe** Kyla, but I really question whether or not she can hold out another 2 years. Simone plus Bailie Key, Nia Dennis, and Norah Flatley aging up just in time for Rio makes for some STEEP competition. I can't wait to see who is on the floor come Rio!
I love Kyla but she already looks exhausted so I would be shocked if she could make it to another Olympics. I am in full support of the minimum age for Olympic gymnasts, but it makes a successful back to back Olympian very rare, especially for highly competitive countries.

I'm interested to see her routines for this coming season. She mentioned she was planning on upping her difficulty, which was definitely the area she was lacking in. She's always been known for consistency but there's a good chance that will suffer with harder skills.

Agreed. I think it was worlds this year that she said she her body was being held together with tape. Everyone gets injuries, but it's definitely taking a toll on her body and you can see it. She'd only be 19 in Rio (because she was technically 15 in the last games, turned 16 after the olympics) so it is possible, in theory, but she hasn't taken one single break post-olympics and she needs one.

If the current seniors were the only competition she'd have a good shot of making the team but with so many of the Juniors aging up I really don't think it will happen. I want to say the announcers at P&G said the entire top 10 of juniors would be eligible for Rio. insane. Awesome for team USA though. If only one of them could get their bars act together.

And the graphic they showed at this past Worlds was very telling too. Showing how only one (Raisman) was competing in seniors at that point in prior Olympic cycle.

They also brought up how the stiffest competition in the World could very well be at the 2014 US Olympic Trials. I just hope for an injury-free (or at least injury-light) season across the board so we can really see everyone at their best.

Things like this make Nastia's gold medal win at the "old" age of 18 more impressive to me.

It's kind of sad to think that no matter how talented or hard these girls work, if you don't have a birthday within a very specific 12 month range (one that makes you turn 16 either 7 months before or 5 months after the Olympic Games), your odds of making team USA are exponentially lower than those who do.

It does kind of stink that it works out like that. The rise of Simone Biles happened at pretty much the worst time. I'm sure the training plan for someone like her is significantly different than for someone like Shawn Johnson or Jordyn Weiber who fell in line perfectly age-wise, hit it hard nonstop until 16, had their Olympic moment and then "retired". It must be pretty hard to avoid injury or burnout when training and competing so long at that level waiting for your Olympic chance to come around. Not to mention just overall wear and tear on the body.

Deja Jealous?
This tumblr has Laney madsen videos from yesterdays competition. Girl has a potential. She won vault and her floor is amazing. Her swings on bars are gorgeous but man she almost killed her self on her beam dismount.

Im impressed. I've also seen some posts about her competing on a broken ankle, which seems unhealthy to me but maybe that's why I'm not an elite tumbler.

None of the videos would play for me

I think Simone is a different case, I think she's been really smart about her training. I worry more about being mentally worn out rather than physically. She doesn't really look like she's been exerting herself that much. She hasn't even peaked yet. Free from injury it'll be really interesting to see how far she can go but again, so many things can happen in 15 months.

So Laney is competing L10 this season? Does anyone know if she's planning to try to qualify elite this summer or stick with L10 for now? She has plenty of time left until her olympic cycle so I almost hope she stays L10 while she's still learning her basics. I was definitely impressed with how far she has come so quickly
