No they did not pay for his food & lodging. It is extremely common for host families to do this. That is why they are called host families.
I never said he was forced to be on the show at all. It is more than likely that if he never signed the release for the show that it would of caused a re-think of his selection. People are not always in their sport for fame or recognition, they are in it for the love of the sport.
99% Florida and 1 kiwi. Best thing I've read all day.(And join a team that doesn't even compete in Smoed's division. It'd be different if he left for Brandon. "99% Florida and 1 Kiwi.")
4 days before my birthday in a hotel room in Rome, 1 hour before a private tour of the Sistine Chapel. My firsthand experience that money doesn't buy you class or courtesy. Also- 20 minutes into breaking up with me, he told me that if we were older that he would have asked me to marry him. My face did this , I used several choice words my grandmother would have rapped my knuckles for, and then I locked myself in the bathroom. Good times.
I got a free tour of Rome, rode jet skis in Capri, and ate at a restaurant in a lemon grove on his parent's dime. You win some, you lose some.
I thought that was well established long ago.Apparently Cali needs a social media policy for coaches as well.
In regards to the Visa and the contacting of INS, I was told by 2 separate people (1 of which was informed by a Cali higher up and the other by a CEA higher up) that when CA went in to INS to get the Visa revoked, they were effectively laughed out of the office. I know nothing about Visa's, but that alone told me CA had little to nothing to do with him being here and could do nothing about him staying here.

I can't believe they sunk low enough to try to revoke this kid's visa and effectively ruin his last year of eligibility because they got their feelings hurt. This is so embarrassing for California Allstars I'm physically cringing. ESPECIALLY because his father made it clear he had no legal tether to Smoed/CA in his visa contract. YIKES.In regards to the Visa and the contacting of INS, I was told by 2 separate people (1 of which was informed by a Cali higher up and the other by a CEA higher up) that when CA went in to INS to get the Visa revoked, they were effectively laughed out of the office. Yes I did...apologies.No I know, I'm agreeing with you, and was responding to getsum.
I think you may have quoted the wrong post?
I should of said he felt he had no choice as that is what I meant...my badi was aware of exchanges not having money involved since each family takes the others kid. in my past experience, with university students, not all host families have paid for food and offered free lodging. my aunt and uncle took in a student from japan and were actually paid. that was very generous of that family that took in your son.
technically, it was implied in your post: "Dylan did not want to be on the show but he wanted to be on the team & to be on the team means you have to be on the show, you don't have a choice."
its clear now that he assumed that choosing not to be on the show might impact the coachs decision to place him on the team. that is completely different from not having a choice. he thought he didnt have a choice, but that wasnt necessarily true. that's too bad that he felt like he didnt have a choice.
