Oh dear..... I'm sorry to hear about that. I hope it didn't affect your daughter's team dynamics too much.
Thanks! I think my CP is just upset because she was close with this girl and couldn't believe she'd leave without telling her and explaining why. Yesterday she was listening to Soundcloud and ran to the iMac to turn off Smoed saying, "I just can't listen to this anymore". She is 15. She will get over it.

Here it goes. First of all... smoed chill out! Its cheerleading remember its supposed to be fun?! If someone isn't having fun anymore guess what its their right to leave. If they want to to go to another program... that's their right too as long as they have the proper releases. Do I think jumping between programs is right? Not necessarily it depends on the situation. But don't forget that it seems a majority of your athletes come from other programs so don't be surprised when they do it to you. Now how about you put the phone down and focus on yourselves and stop posting nastiness all over twitter and wherever else you do it. Also its time to grow up and handle your problems like adults. Stop having people make excuses for you and take accountability for your actions!

Also coaches involved in this mess... you should know better. Your inaction in this situation is disgusting.

I think although the majority of tweets are not positive, you need to remember they are teenagers. We have seen the coaches ask athletes to take down tweets before when posting about other issues, but when the team is hurting, unfortunately in this day and age one of the only outlets these kids know is social media. Orby is obviously hurt and upset and is trying to justify himself and whatever actions may have been deemed 'bullying' but I am sure once everyone has slept on it, things will settle down.

We have seen many other clubs do the same thing and post derogatory comments about other teams or athletes, but they get little or no criticism because they are not three time world champions.

Yes there was similar reactions when jenee left, and a positive reaction when gabi left. Maybe we should look at the manner in which the athletes leave? Does everyone not feel a little betrayed or hurt when an athlete leaves to go to another programme?
yes you can feel betrayed and hurt, but that doesn't give you the right to put down former athletes when you yourself are no longer part of said team.

Maybe the NZ guy leaving and allegeding Orby is a bully has something to do w/ the content of this weekend's episode. I wonder if they all see the show live at the same time as the public and maybe he didn't like the things that were said about Tyler just as much as we didn't.

Unlike shows like Dance Moms, these participants are old enough to react independently to the show's content. The kids on Dance Moms are at the mercy of their parents decisions to keep them on the show.

That's actually a very interesting point you raise that I hadn't considered. Thank you. Perhaps NZ dude and Tyler were close since they were both new to the team ..... Very interesting indeed!

Why do I feel like the only 'right' way of leaving for them is maybe a month into the season, or never having tried out at all?

And if you DO leave, you're banned from cheer for life. My goodness, it's like that ridiculous Bring It On 3 segment where Hayden P had to bury her cheer shoes and promise to never cheer again.

I mean, if I spend my practices getting yelled at, made to feel like a failure and that my spot is constantly in jeopardy, etc.- is that a group of people I'd want to face and tell them I'm leaving so they could use my leaving to RE-remind me that I'm a failure, it's good my spot's now open???

Just got on Twitter just to see what's going on ( cause I barely go on) first post I see is a Cali coach just posted, tellin all the athletes to please keep it classy , your better than that..

The only right way to leave smoed is to age out.

Yeah if they could have done that two days ago...that would have been great.

Unfortunately, the damage is done and people have formed their opinions. When J left, I had more sympathy for them because she had been with that gym for so long and left abrubtly very close to a major competition. But the way they continued to drag it out and the way a majority of the kids and a few adults acted recently...I have no sympathy any longer.

As a poster said before, smoed has become notorious for benefiting greatly from athletes leaving old programs to join them, essentially being able to handcraft their team. They should not be so shocked that athletes leave them when they have no problem taking athletes from other programs.

Yes, it is okay to be hurt when someone quits. I'm sure every team gets hurt when someone leaves to a different gym but I have never seen anything even close to the backlash smoed unleashed when J left and now with the 2 boys departures.

Yes, she is. Unfortunately she is from my daughter's team. Coaches found out when her mother called the gym an hour before practice on Sunday. I doubt the team will post anything. My CP will find out tonight but she is pretty sure that she was replaced last night.
I'm sorry :(

Someone just brought it up in another thread... The November 1 deadline is coming up. Smoed is going to need to do some heavy recruiting over the next few days if they want to bring in more ringers without a waiver.

I'm evil. I almost hope they can't find anyone and they're forced to make do like so many other gyms.
