I'm still curious about the reasoning behind it. If one of the reasons was to prove how much business/money Cheersport brings to Atlanta, I have 3 issues with that.
1) Look at the sales from local businesses during those 3-4 days (not to mention as someone stated earlier how downtown Atlanta has stuff EVERYWHERE welcoming cheersport and even businesses put signs/posters in widows proving the impact!)
2) What about just spectators? Those people that come to Atlanta who aren't cheering and don't have to stay where Varsity commands? There are QUITE a few of them also. What about their economic impact, is it accounted for?
3) I think my biggest issue is that "they" (whomever they may be) seem to only be worried about the hotel industry. That's ONE aspect of the hundreds of businesses that profit from cheersport. Do they also look at say RESTAURANTS, the aquarium, theaters, the Coca-Cola museum, heck even the botanical gardens? No, I'm sure they're not. They're only concerned with the hotels and how they can control where and how much money is spent.
Rant over. I'm tired of this concept and seriously starting to be tired of cheerleading/Varsity. I just hope they don't destroy this sport.
