I understand what you're saying. But the man commentating on ESPN is Jeff Webb, the founder and CEO of Varsity Brands. A "legend" in cheerleading. I think that's why it's kind of upsetting.
Exactly, he should definitely know better.

have you

ever seen that show on tv where the ceo takes a job in his/her own company and knows squat about their business? im not saying jeff webb is like that, i dont really know his history that well...but a lot ceos know nothing about what happens in their business or how it works.

I think if you are gonna commentate on cheerleading you either need to be really knowledgeable OR fun and entertaining to listen to.

I prefer commentating thats fun

I think IMO, you should have Both of these qualities!!!!!!

Jeff Webb may call things what he does because that is what he refers to them as. I guess if there are any current or past UCA staff on the board they may be able to give insight on why he calls things what he does. I know that UCA has different terms for things that others do not use. Jeff Webb is an experienced person and no matter how much people dislike him they can't deny what he has done for the sport.

And Bob Knight may be experienced but it does not make his commentating skills good. If I am watching a game I want to hear about the game not other things going on.

What I don't understand is how if HS nationals took place in February and they are just airing in late March/April....don't they have the ability to do in an add in the commentary after. That way, when Jeff and Amy are so dumbfounded by something (ie: Maddie's ball-up 360 tick tock last year at worlds) they can take a moment to process it, and call it by what it actually is. It's not like an NFL game where they're calling it for a live broadcast.

I wanted to choke them watching HS Nationals. A team did switch-ups and they called them tick-tocks! Two different skills, one of which (the tick-tock) is illegal at the HS level as of this year....so no one was even doing tick-tocks!!!

theres two kinds, one that talks while the game goes on, another that talks between breaks pre-half-post game. knight is i believe the most winningest coach in college basketball. he may not do play by play well but i feel like he knows the game and knows how teams play currently. the game has changed in the last 10 years just as cheer has. the other type is a person that knows every athletes name (just about) knows every skill, and rapidly spits out correct information with little error. cool jeff webb is a legend, this isn't just about him. i feel like there are way more people who qualify to do "play by play" analysis. like really? some of yall live, eat, breathe, do nothing but try to know every aspect of cheer, someone like that would be better for the job
