Since we're all in here & the season is now officially over I figured I'd remind everyone:
Don't forget to cancel your FloCheer/VarsityTV subscription before they charge you again.
(Weird to be saying that without a Worlds thread or Worlds Monday work hangover.)

‘Cause ‘Murica. We value the individual over the group and no one is gonna tell us what we can do. We got rights durnit. (My eye rolling emojis didn’t post so needed to make the sarcasm alert part of my post)I’m not from the US so maybe I’m just out of touch but I can’t for the life of me understand why a country that gets 30 thousand new confirmed cases daily would want to ease up on restrictions
A second wave has always been predicted. Sheltering and job loss isn't doing our immune systems any favors and that's based on decades of research. COVID19 was unknown and they expected millions (not thousands) of deaths. The American death rate for COVID19 is currently .00015% with 95% of all deaths having a primary underlying condition (diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, immunodificiency, ...). American unemployment from COVID19 is now at 26 million. Here's some facts with what increases with job loss: Poor health, hunger, homelessness, alcohol/drug abuse, suicide, child/spousal physical abuse, rape, violence, and crime.
Hotspots have good reason to continue to shelter, but the majority of states and hospitals are not only quiet, they are furloughing medical staff.....in the middle of a pandemic..... where a second wave is predicted. Things need to open slowly and as these hospitals can handle it.

With increased testing comes increased cases, remember 80% of people have mild to medium symptoms and they are now able to get tested. Our neighbor, a nurse, has tested 3 times because she has to test negative to go back to work. She’s not been asked how many times she’s been tested, so her 3 positive tests are counted each time. Look at hospitalization rates instead, they are really low across the majority of the US.
@quietmom which is why I posted Shanghai’s Disneyland article with a potential opening in May at 30% capacity. We can’t live in fear of “potential” if there’s a common sense approach of getting people back to work while balancing our hospital capacity. We can’t ignore what decades of research and history has shown us with mass unemployment either.
Very interesting! I can understand that. Hopefully for everyone’s sake the numbers go down soon (not just there but everywhere). Was supposed to take a trip there this summer. Next year I suppose!!We have a strong independent spirit. That manifests as a healthy distrust of government specifically and authority generally. There are times when that is warranted and there are times when it is counterproductive.
It sounds as though they are using events as their “soft” opening, using them as their entry into “phase 2”. The dates are conspicuously close to the model dates for when social distancing measures could be switched to containment in the area. ( like within a week). I think it is ambitious, but possible.Disney world is a huge hotspot potential. They know it. They're not going to risk it, and they chose to close. I don't see them opening up again for a while. They don't want to have the PR damage from being ground zero for the 2nd wave starting back. I hate it for the employees who work there.
