Death rate by infected is ultimately what I'm interested in. Again, picking and choosing the number you want to look at, but still not ranked #1 as you said in your first post and still shows by doing nothing, they are by far not the worst off.

I never said number 1. You said Sweden’s lax approach hasn’t made much difference and that’s false.

How is cooperation in Sweden though? I’ve read that one of the reasons why Sweden has not had to mandate lockdowns and shutdowns is because most people follow recommendations. Is that accurate?

At first it was ok (but kids still went to school and no social distancing there). Now most people are not so careful anymore, almost no one wears masks bc it’s not recommended and basically it’s one of the few countries in Europe where the virus is not under control. Other countries can reopen quite safely without having a massive increase bc cases were way down and they’re testing and tracing any new cases.

In my opinion, the way to deal with this is mask wearing, testing & tracing, and possibly shorter local lockdowns if needed. Everyone wants life to go on but there are better or worse ways to do it. (For cheer I think masks only when stunting could be a compromise.)

I am pretty upset over what’s happening in Sweden so I’d prefer to not discuss it anymore. I brought it up when someone was saying about no masks and hand washing, bc that’s what it’s like there... sorry.

I have read/been told only a very high-quality mask can do anything. Plus I could never work out in a mask. no way, no how. I cant even wear one without having problems breathing.

I completely agree.

I hope you're doing as well as can be despite the circumstances and that the tide turns against the virus in Sweden sooner rather than later.
 
Honestly- more than the virus... I hate the arguing about the virus.
I hate the inconsistent information, the bias of information Of what is okay or what is not okay from different sources.
I hate the “this” vs “that” and the “us” vs “them”
(No, I’m not speaking to anyone on this thread... I know it’s more of an exchange of information here, or at least I hope it is)
We will never live in, through or with this if we don’t come together in some shape or form.
Does this mean we all agree on what to do or how to do it, probably not- but it DOES mean everyone starts respecting each other’s difference of opinions... everyone’s view points and EVERYONE start looking outside of themselves a little more. There’s a whole lot “I” don’t like and a whole lot “I” prefer but “I” am not the whole world- just a part of it.

Relevant to the mask discussion, have ya'll seen this ?

I love their leadership and transparency. I hope Varsity/USASF/whoever is listening. And how about those plans for social distanced cheer comps? How about pushing the season a bit so it is not all indoors or we don't feel rushed to stunt before safe? Is it so wrong to push the whole comp season? How about requirements for masks for athletes, spectators or both?

I think the transparency is great. It was something that was inevitable within youth sports in general and for any gym, large or small. It also gives everyone a chance to improve on policies that involve public health collectively.

I don’t know what the right answer is. I do feel like we can’t go back to business as usual anytime soon, if ever. And that athletes do need to wear masks if they cannot social distance (including when stunting). I also feel this could have an adverse affect on their health especially those with respiratory problems (like my daughter). I don’t think it’s feasible anymore to stunt at the level they have in the past.

I hope that the powers that be take a broader look at how to tackle this problem. Perhaps an adjustment to scoresheet or something this season that doesn’t make the industry as whole feel so pressured to push our athletes.

How do you guys feel about full contact spotting for tumbling? I'm seeing gyms/coaches post video's of privates where neither the athlete or the coach is wearing a mask.

Is that safe? Is it any different than stunting in terms of risk?

I think these are all good questions to ask and discuss publicly! We've been locked down here for what feels like forever and are so ready to move forward. Now we need the best guidance on HOW we do that safely. Can we just go back to the way we've always done things and if not which changes should we make?

our coaches has always worn one when doing privates........
