i agree with @AshaFierce . I have witnessed high top sneakers helping the flyers with ankle stability and support, but they didn't really help anyone with ankle injuries/bad ankles. Everyone ended up wearing braces with the shoes. (we wore the kaepa high tops for high school competition)

My really old team Illinois Knights Elite would wear them, and other teams constantly made fun of us. But I think it helped the flyers, and gave us a unique look.

I LOVE those shoes. They are great to base. And i think it makes some flyers' body positions look better.
I think it makes a team look inexperienced. Nfinities are the way to go! Put an ankle brace with that and she is set(:

The Reebok high tops are the BEST!!!<3 We are required to wear them at Elite Cheer Michigan :) They are SO comfortable and give the ankles a lot of support :) But Ankle Braces are definitely a better way to go because that is exactly what an ankle brace is designed to do--give support, and stability.
Poor thing ;)

Sidebar, is this team still around? I remember competing against them back in the day, but I haven't seen them in forever.

i used to have to wear them for the team i was on ... we had black ones and the bottom is really narrow ... my ankle rolled many times during the year when i was tumbling . also i know a lot of people were used to making their shoes so tight and then the next year we didnt have them their ankle was all over the place when flying ... i also agree that they are a lot easier to base with but thats about it

I believe they closed within the last 2 years.

As a base/backspot I cant stand the feel of the bottom of those reeboks...sharp edges, no grip contour and the height gets in the backspots way.

As a coach I want all my kids to realize that they offer no real support, lol.

Honestly, I've never wore them! I've also never cheered competitively lol.
Anyways my Cp's gym wore the white ones a year before we got there and I'm so glad they don't now because they are ugly. I don't imagine it offering that much more support- I'd rather wear an ankle brace that is made to support the ankle or whatever that I'm having a problem with!

On a side note there was a 4.2 team at a competition we went to that was mainly black, maybe red, and yellow?
Anyways, they had on some high top black reeboks and although I think white shoes look a million times better. I thought the shoes looked cool with their uniform since the uniform they wore was mostly black! I never thought I'd say that- but I mean if it's high tops is what y'all wear cool I guess!
But if she had some high tops on and no one else did it would look so awkward...at least the brace we all know what that's for!

Thanks everyone! Just by looking at the reeboks I was thinking that they offer no support but I wanted to get everyones opinion too! Looks like the ankle brace that she has is the way to go. Thanks!

No unfortunately. Cook county in Illinois (where the gym was located) raised taxes exponentially in 2008 so eventually, in 2009, before the start of the 2009-2010 season they closed down. :/ There were some great coaches there, and they were the last gym in Cook county to exist.
