canadian healthcare probs?
lol no kidding! I've lived in the states and obvs now canada and I MUCH prefer having to pay for my health care insurance and getting awesome health care than substandard "free" heath care which isn't really free seeing as we pay a ridiculous amount in taxes.

I have relatives who live just outside Montreal. It's a nightmare. Can't wait for that to happen here! *sarcasm*

My best friend had an Appendectomy (funny story, had no clue it was happening, made jokes about, went to Sweet Sixteen) she sat out a week and was tumbling after awhile. But her wounds didn't heal as quickly.
If I compete I'm actually only going to be fronting, possibly doing one db in a pyramid and the dance. I won't be jumping or doing any of my tumbling.

ouuuu and quebec is even WORSE with their health care than ontario is! Darn that sucks:/

I have to ask the obvious question. What does your Mother think about you wanting to jump right in?

it's funny you ask...my mom doesn't know. She knows I'm still going to comp because I've already paid but she doesn't know that I may still compete...I've talked to my coaches and I have a feeling I won't be competing at all which completely stinks..I'd even be happy nuggeting and just doing the dance rather than sitting out :( I've cheered for 14 years and I've never missed a comp...ever -_-

i know it's sad to miss a comp. i had to sit out quite a few due to injury. but compared to sitting out the rest of the season if something potentially goes wrong... i'd play it safe and be your team's biggest cheerleader and fan this one competition.

I actualy don't have sutures but it was glued and steri stripped..I am a nurse so I definitely know better it just really sucks...I have a strong feeling I'm not gonna be competing but I still want to get ready and wear my uni for the first time and still look pretty..I mean I at least have to look more than a simple fan lol

Girl then you should know better, lol! I remember what it was like when my brother had appendicitis and had to have his removed. He was complaining about not going to the hospital and I had swung by his work to take him an anti-nausea medicine and he was laid out on the floor in the fetal position next to the trashcan (nothing but bile) and told him not only could I not give him any medicine, but that he had to get to the hospital ASAP via ambulance. He was arguing w/me about it bc he didn't have health insurance and how expensive it was gonna be (especially the ambulance) and I told him he could lay on the floor and die or go to the hospital. He had to go via ambulance IMO bc they needed to start a line on him. Long story short, his appendix was the size (length and width) of my first two fingers!! His surgeon showed us after the operation!! Said he was lucky to be alive.

I remember how long it took him to recover bc I helped take care of him. Anyway, back to you...you already said you know better and I know it sucks, but I don't see any problem w/you dressing out and walking out w/your team like injured athletes do, then taking a seat (and NOT competing ;)). That I totally get.

and it was laparoscopic surgery :) it wasn't open surgery! Thank goodness

My daughter had hers out on Jan 31, 2012 it had not burst and it was done laparoscopically. She missed one practice and then she marked the routine at the rest of the practices until she was released for activity. The surgeon saw her 10 days after surgery and was released to go full out the next day.

Did yours burst? Having a follow up visit one month later seems like a long time to wait if it didn't. If it didn't burst, I would call and see if you could be put on a "call list" in case someone cancels an appt. Good luck and wait for your dr. to release you!

Believe me I get it. My heart breaks for you that the best advice is to get ready, meet your team, come out on the floor with them and then support them from the front. Prayers that you will be able to come to terms with you having to put your health first. Always!! (((Hugs)))

It didn't burst...it actually didn't end up even being my appendix but something else but they took out the appendix and fixed (for now) the cause of my pain. Doctors wait lists here are ridic and I am on a cancellation list already but doubtful that I'll still see anyone for at least another 2 weeks at most...because I'm sure there are plenty of people on cancellation list too...which goes for like every surgeon/doctor in canada pretty much...
