Nah they don't have privatized health care in my province anyway. There are some x-ray/mri clinics now so you don't have to wait AS long but most specialists and such are monthsssss. I have medical benefits through my work and thank god because our provincial govt doesn't cover many cost to disability related items. For example my hearing aids are almost 5 grand and they only pay for 500 dollars per ear so a total of a grand. But that doesn't include the molds 105 each ear and the dispensing fees etc. And I've gone through 4 sets of hearing aids since the age of 16 lol ...I miss living in maryland! :(

Are you completely hearing impaired if you don't mind my asking? My best friends in elementary school were deaf (well two were completely hearing impaired and one was only partially)...but I learned sign language so that was pretty cool- I was practically the only kid at my school who communicated w/them on a regular basis. :)

However, I never quite got the whole talking on the telephone thing down pat, lol. I always felt like I was also talking to the translator and kept waiting for he or she to respond when I'd say something; or asking them "did you get that?"
They must have hated me, lol

Yes I'm deaf not hard of hearing. I have a severe to profound hearing loss and wear two hearing aids. I only started losing my hearing when I was around 16 along with getting tinnitus (24/7 ringing in my ears). I actually don't mind the deaf part AS much as the tinnitus though...It's sometimes really inconvenient communicating. I read lips REALLY well though by this point. I'm now almost 24 so I've had a lot of practice:) It comes in handy when my girls I coach are talking from across the gym and I tell them to stop talking about whatever and they look astonished haha

Yes going through relay is a lil awkward. I actually haven't got the hang of it myself. Which I seriously need to since I'm going to be getting a tty/captioned telephone for my office at work soon. You're supposed to talk like the relay operator isn't there but then they talk too so I know it can get confusing. I'm teaching myself ASL right now since there are no free ASL classes that I can take anywhere where I live. I had found a tutor but then she like dropped off the face of the planet so I'm sort of stuck right now lol.

here are my hearing aids with the molds and tubing taken off:)

It didn't burst...it actually didn't end up even being my appendix but something else but they took out the appendix and fixed (for now) the cause of my pain. Doctors wait lists here are ridic and I am on a cancellation list already but doubtful that I'll still see anyone for at least another 2 weeks at most...because I'm sure there are plenty of people on cancellation list too...which goes for like every surgeon/doctor in canada pretty much...

Really? I went in for an elective sinus surgery and they offered me a date 3 week after my consult (that I only waited 4 weeks for). I've had very little difficulty getting in to a physician, specialist etc. Maybe I have incredible luck, or Manitoba is a little less bogged down

Sorry about the hearing loss :(

I agree, going through Relay bites. I used to have to use it at an old employer's office because we saw a lot of hearing impaired/deaf patients, and it was awkward. Necessary, but awkward.

However, those hearing aids are FIERCE!!!!

haha the hearing loss doesn't really bother me anymore..I have some days where I just don't understand anything and I get frustrated but there's much more worse things I could have to deal with so I don't complain much about it. Plus I can turn people off when I don't wanna listen:P haha I do this often when people annoy me (like hearing the person in starbucks beside you talk to her friend about how she hates her mother in law). Most people who need to get a hold of me doctors etc I'll get my mom to make the appt if I have to call or they will correspond by email :) much easier and then I have something in writing.

and thanks! I didn't want to get boring beige for my hearing aids! I figured if they had to cost so much I may as well make them look good! You should see my earmolds:P another link below will show my full hearing aids with molds attached! haha they're pretty fantastic

It's hard to tell in the pic but they're black and white swirled to be like zebra print. The purple hearing aid has white and black and the zebra has blue and black :)

Wow that's pretty good! The office called back and gave me an appt for the 11th instead which is a bit better than the 18th. My other referral still hasn't called me back at all -_-

Oh then yes it does. Open surgery is more invasive and can have more complications than laparoscopic.
