Recently, on my Facebook page, several moms I know started posting photographs of their CPs in uniform, tagging this "new photographer." The moms shared that he's willing to do FREE photoshoots of cheerleaders "for his portfolio." He specifies that they need to be wearing cheer attire. It seemed like many moms who may not have had interest in actually paying a photographer started booking appointments like nuts and posting the photos online (Facebook and IG). I'm friends with another sports/dance pro photographer in the area, so I thought I'd reach out to this new dude and see what was up. New photographer has messaged me repeatedly, even though I've not responded after my initial, "so, why are you doing this?" I got RED FLAGS all over the place, and my intuition said no bueno--not that I would ever consider allowing some stranger to photograph my daughter wearing a crop top and spanks!!! Someone who wants to take pictures of your kids for FREE needs to be researched thoroughly and don't leave them alone.

Where is this new photog? I need to avoid :)

So much craziness on social media! Especially today on Twitter. I'm staying off it and focusing on The Bachelor ;)
You are seeing the backlash on twitter of what happened mostly on IG. You would be downright horrified if you saw what goes on in IG land. I think Instagram is far more dangerous than twitter

My instagram is mostly random selfies to promote my vlogging channel or myself as an actor. When I posted at my friends tea shop I got some tea-related followers or one of my workout outfits got some fitness people. Every so often I get tagged in one of those 'buy more followers' posts (if you wanna know if someone bought followers, easiest way is their sub-to-watch ratio or their followers-to-likes ratio). But other than that, it's just whatever to me.

Now, as I mentioned on Facebook- if I did a squat video, I'd be rolling in followers and endorsements #darnmymorals

This has been happening to me too. I thought it was because I switched my account to public for a month or so cause I was trying to win free passes to our zoo through a contest. One of the profiles had a girl with no top on at all!

I keep getting them even though my account is private!

I wanted to respond to the post about modeling- my daughter has modeled over the years. An adult friend of mine was a professional model and has many friends still in the industry. One of them noticed a photo of my daughter my friend commented on on facebook- it was just a photo of her with a giant (three times the size of her head) cotton candy. She contacted my friend who introduced us- and the photos she asked for did not require any sort of scantily clad poses. For children they just need someone in close proximity to the shoot, in the size they want, who can behave well. It certainly is NOT necessary to have crazy social media accounts to get the ball rolling - and most certainly there is no need to have them appear as mini adults! I may not understand this whole mindset though- we did not search it out, decline most job offers, and don't really care if she models or not.

HOW ELSE WILL the world know she is a #futurewildcat or #futuresmoed?

And re: the photoshoots, perhaps I am missing something, but HOW MANY "professional" or model-type photos in practice wear does a kid need? Really.

I also have a real question. For someone who may have/know a kid who models?

So you want your kid to be a LEGITIMATE model.

Is a kid REALLY going to get noticed by a REAL agency with cheer practicewear photoshoots with cheer photographers?

I am not on often but I look at who some of my HS cheerleaders follow and these kids will be in 8th/g9th grade having like 12 photoshoots with photographers with glitter, practice clothes, on the beach, props, whatever. Are agencies really scouting cheer kids for modeling work based on that?

I know that some kids may be Rebel or Varsity models, but I was wondering about paid modeling outside of cheer industry brands.

The short answer is no. Modeling agencies do not care to look at pictures of kids glitzed up in cheer, dance, pageant gear, etc. One professional picture in a cheerleading uniform in a portfolio would be acceptable. But to be taken seriously by an agency and get jobs outside of the cheer industry, it is very important to have multiple "clean," close-up headshots. This means minimal makeup and minimal photoshopping.

I used to work for a modeling agency. I worked with adults and I definitely looked for bathing suit photos (amongst other things) in portfolios. My friend who owned the agency worked mostly with children. Her two pet peeves were overly touched up pageant photos and kids dressed inappropriately for their age. She always said, "If I am sending a 6 year-old out to a job, I want to know she will show up looking like a 6 year-old, not a 16 year-old."

Does anyone else occasionally have the issue that your account follows someone on its own? More than a few times I've been scrolling through to see someone that I know I didn't follow. I'll click on them to unfollow, but it's happened a least more than a few times. Can people make you follow them without you choosing to follow them?

Maybe you followed someone and then they changed their username?

I keep getting likes in whatever my last photo is in Instagram from accounts that are of a scantily dressed woman who has no followers or one or two. They're like new accounts and I keep reporting them but there's too many. Has something like this happened to anyone before?

Happens to me on Twitter all the time. And I get spam/virus emails in Arabic frequently. I just delete them.

It's so annoying. I really don't do much on Instagram. I actually hate the d*mn thing. Now I will use it even less. ;)

Yes. I think they are seeking fame and hoping to be featured on the Instagram accounts of cheer related companies. Although, that kind of fame is worth absolutely nothing and I would expect to get paid by a company using my kid's image in their advertising. That's none of my business though...;)

(Speaking of models, though, I'm SURE you've seen the most recent local photographer taking "model" type pictures of cheerleaders...that's for another thread, though)
Wut.

I've thought that before but when I click on the profile it's either people I don't know/have no similar connections to, is clearly an ad based promotional page, or is porn related. The first time or two I thought I was crazy or that maybe I accidentally followed something, but I'll log out for a week or two and when I sign back in I'm following random people that I know I never followed. Didn't know if there was some sort of hacking or buying of followers that can make accounts follow people they didn't ever ask to

That's what happened to my friend in my earlier post. It could be a third party app that somehow got linked to your account. I don't remember how she found out what company it was but she emailed Instagram to report it being hacked and changed her password.
