All-Star Jam Live Competitions

The awards ceremony does announce the 2nd and 3rd place teams. What it doesn't do is announce the 17th place team and I'm personally okay with that. I think we spend way to much time finding a way to make "everybody a winner" when its simply not the case. This is a sport. In sport there are winning teams and losing teams. Being on a team that "lost" is not something to be embarrassed about. Not being able to handle losing is though.

Very True !

I really like the Jam Live format. My CP competed at the one in DC last year and the suspense when they read the score to beat then their score was crazy! I think its neat that you basically know where you stand almost immediately after you compete. I also like how every participant received an identical trophy regardless of placing. This competition is unique and I hope other competition companies don't try to mimic its format. I can understand how people could dislike it though if your team does not stack up well against its competitors, but I think they try to give everyone positive feedback from the judges standpoint.

Maybe just read the top 3 scores and 3 places . My CP's team beat 12 teams in a competition last year and when they called it out "in 13th place" and gave the score. I did feel terrible for that team. They did not even know how to act. It was sad.
My post above was not towards Jam. Its about all competitions, just announce the top 3 teams with their scores. I don't think there is any reason to announce the twelfth place team that they are in twelfth regardless if its a close score or not. Just kind of a passion killer.

I think it's a fun comp, overall, and I'm not sure about most athletes, but my cp cares more about the "place" than the score. If her team isn't in 1st, well, that's all she needed to know.
Along the lines of what @My3KidsMom and @5-6-7-8 said, this is a competitive sport. Not a "make everyone feel warm and fuzzy all the time" sport. Above all the fun and games of Jam Live, it's a competition. Therefore, scores matter. I've seen programs beef up their teams/routines and stack teams much better the following season so they don't have to go through the embarrassment of having a low score announced the next time around. That seems like a positive outcome of a negative feeling, IMO.

I think this competition format is fun to do once a year. We always attend the one in Chicago, and it's one of our program's faves. They have a spot with a backdrop where you can take your teams' pictures. There's a red carpet up to the front of the stage, and they have a bouncer walk the teams up the red carpet to the song of their choice as they go up to the floor to compete. They get to be cheerlebrities for a few minutes, and I think it's really fun for them. I like the live scoring too- I think all the scores should be posted at every competition though.

What you just said there though "The awards ceremony really only highlights the 1st place team and specialty awards" Well why not highlight all the teams? ha - maybe this is the coach in me coming out ha !
well each team gets highlighted right after they perform they go back on the stage so then can reciever personal trophies in front of everyone and their score. my team is always huddled (just like awards) waiting to see if we made it in the leader lounge. this is nice for one competition but i would deffinitely not like if for all of them, but over all i would go back to this comp.

We love this comp! My team had a horrendous performance last year (at least 6 tumbling touchdowns!) so they never got to experience the "Leaders Lounge" but we will definitely go back!!

Hey Everyone,
I felt it was way different then an actual awards ceremony where your in the privacy of your own area with your team and the whole arena isnt watching you. I dont know I really just had a major problem with that. Anyone else?

Aren't nearly all awards ceremonies like that? Everyone is down on the mat with the entire crowd watching them call out names.

I feel like my teams never do too well at Jamlive events. Black mats and smoke don't mix well..

My athletes have always hated the smoke at any comp. I tell them hold their breath when they run out and that we will wait for it to clear before we hit play lol.

I think she meant that in a normal awards ceremony all the teams are on the mat so spectators are generally watching the entire thing, rather than one team all on their own waiting to hear their score.

I like Jam Live competitions. They are fun for the girls! As a parent, I do get tired of having to wait several hours for awards, especially when you have little ones.

As far as feeling bad for teams who place extremely low, well that can happen at any competiton. There have been plenty of competitions that you go to and see awesome teams and then there is "that" team that goes out on the floor and you can't help but immediately know they are out of their league and should be competing at a lower level. I look at it as the coaches/gyms fault for putting their team in that situation to compete at a level they are not ready for. If it is just a matter of the team was having a bad performance and not hitting thier stunts and tumbling as hey usually do, well that happens too.

normally i feel as if some teams dont do well because some coaches put a group of girls together on a team that really dont belong on the team, they just push the team to be at a higher level.

personally i would rather feel like i did really great at a lower level then just lose all the time at a higher level because your routine is too hard for almost everyone on the floor and it never hits.
