Ive heard speculation that Jamfest may try pulling out of the USASF? Ive also heard from several coaches Jamfest in calling around trying to find out if teams would still attend without Worlds bids? Anyone else hear anything? Agree or Disagree? Anyone else thing Varsity has too much power in the USASF?
WOW!! thats crazy!!
I do agree, though, Varsity does have way to much power.
I personally LOVE Jambrand events anyways!
Varsity is definitely positioning themselves to be the Governing Body, just like USASF is and USACheer.
I agree that the work done by all three is important to the growth of the sport.

Very interesting. Just exactly how does varsity have too much power?

I know that varsity wrote the check so the USASF could get off the ground and provide the all star world with some level of continuity. All of the other EP's had no problem jumping on the worlds train and receiving the benefits that the USASF has provided.

I'm really curious how many of you remember how non-relevant Jammy was back in 2005.

Varsity is tops in: uniform sales, camps, competitions. They have bought up tons of competition companies. Why did they sell out to them? Because of the "if you can't beat em, join em" mentality. Varsity was pushing in on their business (holding events in a nearby town the same weekend, or the weekend before/after their event in the same town). Varsity has a much bigger wallet to work with, so they could offer a higher quality competition for less money, so they were taking all the teams from these events. After a while of this (a few years) they offered to buy out the company, and many agreed-some right way, some it took a few years. There are only a few big competition/camp companies that aren't in the "Varsity Family"...which is run by the guy who says "cheerleading isn't a sport".

Couldn't you substitute Jamfest for varsity in this part?

Isn't offering a higher quality product at a lower price called capitalism? What's wrong with capitalism?

I'm all for free speech and calling it like you see it. But, unlike virtually everyone else, the people that own and run Varsity have put everything they have at risk in a company dedicated to cheer. Like it or not it is capitalism, it is risk, it is guts and they have made it work. And I can tell you, that is not easy. These people love cheer so much they have made it their lives and staked what they have on making it work. And yes, call them out, criticize, but they deserve our respect.

And the people who own all of the cheer companies that they bought out don't love cheer, risked it all and dedicated their lives to cheer? I can tell you, 100% that they all did. Each and every one of them.

Do you know what it's called when one company owns everything in an industry? A monopoly. That's what Varsity is closing in on becoming. They aren't there yet, but it's in the future.

My last year of all-star was 2005 and I never went to a jamfest competition- ever! We competed a ton, too so it wasn't a lack of competition opportunity.

Varsity a cheerleading monopoly? Not even close! Who/when was the last monopoly that had to be broken up?

But they sold to Varsity by choice. Again, call it like you see it, but understand that when you and I talk about cheer, we discuss passion, when Jeff Webb talks, he is talking about everything. I understand what you are saying, I sympathize with your pov, but we do not have the inisder information about why things are done and how they appear to us. They do, and they are betting everything on the outcome. We are not.

that would be a bad move on jamfest's part...jmo...i think they would lose a lot of clientele, especially those who already favor varsity over jam brands but attend both types of events.

Does't Varsity also own a few cheer gyms? If so, then you could make a point for conflict of interest. I owned a small business for a while and sold it by choice, no one forced me to do so. While I understand the idea that Varsity is creeping toward a monopoly they are still a long ways from it.

I don't even think Jamfest really took off until a few years after that, circa 2007 or 2008. I think splitting away from the USASF would definitely hurt them. For example why would top rated gyms travel all the way to Indy in the dead of winter to compete at super nationals if there was no worlds bids on the line. Without the top gyms going, other gyms will stop going and then you will be left with local. I think Jamfest pulling out of the USASF and taking all their brands along with them would only help Varsity become bigger because the main competition just took itself out.

Yes, they sold out by choice....the choice to be bought out, or shut down! You may not have insider information, but you don't speak for all of us.

True as that may be they extremely disorganized from each other and little to no inter communication.

I think people would be surprised at how unsteered the ship can be. In fact the lack of organization and structure is what is causing so many gaps that people fill in the holes with Jeff Webb or what not.
