Networking is key. If you are interested in working for Varsity, DO STAFF!!!!! It is SO much fun whether you are looking for a career in the industry or not! It's a year-round job too--I got the opportunity to work as an assistant to the Tabulations judge at the Bluegrass Regional a few weeks ago and it was AWESOME to see how the judging process works!

If you are interested in JamBrands, I would HIGHLY recommend going to school in the Louisville area. So many of my friends in college at UofL work for the brand because they are a marketing and/or events management major & have never cheered a day in their lives. A few of my sorority sisters have part-time jobs with the company, and one of our sorority advisors has a major career within the brand!

After much needed convo's from fellow colleagues in the Spirit Industry I have decided to move forward with my business goals! I will be launching my own Camp/Choreo/Music Production Company with the focus on providing complete scoresheet and level specific camp, choreography and music solutions with the attention to skill and detail from a Coach/Judges perspective. Our work is not just "Flashy" and innovative. Our work is not just "Flashy" and innovative. We make sure that you meet or exceed the scoresheet with your routine and music offering a truly "Competitive" edge. Here at ACPro...it’s more than just a routine!I've had discussions with coaches, producers, parents and cheerleaders alike. The number one concern remains to be customer service!

One thing I WILL continue to do is to Further my Knowledge of "Customer Service" itself.
I WILL continue to educate myself on the many facets of this spirit industry.
I WILL continue to obtain many Customer Service training's as customer service is TRULY the service that any Business Owner is providing whether it be customer facing, online or tele-services...CUSTOMER SERVICE IS CUSTOMER SERVICE NO MATTER WHAT YOUR COMPANY PROVIDES! *I pride myself on staying up to date with the latest customer service trends*
I WILL continue to meet or exceed all deadlines when it comes to customer satisfaction. You pay for a service as a consumer just like I would pay for consumer services. No one likes to be told one thing and then offered another. The date promised is the date your product(s) will arrive GUARANTEED!

I WILL NOT stretch myself too thin! I do not aspire to be "The Industry Leader" I have no need to stack my calendar full of events to the point that I am missing deadlines, providing poor products or simply offering bad customer service. I have no plans to "Get Rich Quick" or support a "Lifestyle" I am simply sharing what I love to do with the industry that I love to be a part of.

People have tried to slander my name, talent, skill and knowledge in this industry and for the record just let me say this...

1. In my entire career so far as a Coach/Choreographer/Camp Instructor I've never rescheduled, canceled, shown up hours late or not all for a service *Paid or Free*. (Even if I have to travel on my own dime to produce.)

2. I do not nor will I take payment money for a product/service without delivering the purchased services, or delivering by the appropriate date.

3. My choreography (Stunt/Dance or Routine) has to date never been flagged for legalities, suggestive, lewd or re-used choreography. To date every routine choreographed by me has placed within the top 10 both locally and or nationally.

No I am not boasting about what I can/can’t do but I am simply clearing up any misinformation that has been released about me and my services. It’s sad that I would have to do this to clear the air! We should all be able to work together in this industry! I'm a pretty strong willed individual but the backstabbing among colleagues is starting to sting a little so I have to voice my opinion - Jarrell (JB)

well I went a very different approach then most in regards to picking a major to stay involved in cheer. I am majoring in athletic training. I love cheerleading, but I also love the medical field. So the best of both worlds for me was picking something involved in sports medicine. I am very passionate about what I do, and was actually in contact with Debbie Love about athletic trainers on staff in cheer gyms. This has actually gotten alot of gym owners attention, and I've been offered a few jobs already, and I'm only a junior in college. like everyone said, networking is your best friend.

I would LOVE to stay in the cheer industry but I also have this desire to get in the medical field and help find a way to end cancer.

This is actually the direction I'm planning on taking right now. I can have a job in sports medicine but also be involved in cheer, best of both worlds as you said :) I'm a junior in high school right now so all of this college stuff is quickly approaching

that's great to hear! I wish more cheerleaders would go this route. I feel like a few years down the line we're going to see alot more gyms implement having an AT on staff.

Maybe the Cheer Industry should find ways to raise money so they can hire PR specialists so they can fix cheerleading's image. Lord knows they are in dire need of it.

You can make a living off of cheerleading, IMO you have to do multiple jobs to sustain a living. I make more than enough money but the work I put in is more than 40+ hours a week.

So I'm in high school, and the college search has begun. At the moment I'm really at a loss from what I want to major in/pursue as my career. My dedication and passion for cheer really has me going back to careers in the cheerleading industry. I'm open to anyone involved; coaches, gym owners, uniform companies, varsity employees, cheer magazine employees, etc. How much do you make? Do you have a job on the side? What did you major in in college? I know this is very broad but I'm open to anything. Thank you! :)

I'm just getting into coaching now. I used to cheer in HS for a very competitive team. Since I've gone to college and law school. To start, I want to learn about coaching by shadowing for a while and then specialize in a specific skill like tumbling, stunting, or choreography (maybe more than 1). Then, move on to coaching my own team when I have more spare time.

If I were to give my HS-self advice, I would say to stay connected to the cheer world. Be a UCA camp instructor, help coach a team, become a judge, etc. But, I probably wouldn't limit myself to cheerleading-focused study in college. Did you know that you don't need a college degree to be a coach or gym owner? Like some other posters said, decide whether you're interested in careers like journalism, law, marketing, etc. All of those skills could be helpful to a gym or company. Then you can coach part-time, etc.

Double Majored in Psychology and Business Admin with Emphasis in Marketing. Id say a sales job in this industry is more about networking and being friendly than anything.
