Am I the only one sick, tired and worried seeing Level 6 Routines that are comprised mainly of people who cheered in High School or who have never cheered in college or even level 5? Further more, who just throw together a Level 6 routine without much practice. Here is just ONE of MANY examples that could be found on youtube:

That pyramid doesnt look like it could have EVER hit solid before? And those back tuck baskets look very unsafe. This is not a bash to this program. I happened to look up other videos of their teams to make sure they had a good level 1-5 program. This just looks like a team thrown together and its unsafe. I think whennon braced flips happen in a routine, guidelines need set forth!

I've seen some Level 6 teams in the past that had made me gasp...I was horrified a coach would put some of these athletes in harms way. The 2 and a half high pyramid and tuck/full tosses should only be executed by expierenced cheerleaders...WOW!!!

i understand what you are saying about their stunts. they are a level 6 team that is taking on more than they can chew. but generally, open level 6 teams ARE comprised of graduated high school girls who would rather stay in an all star program rather than switch over to college cheer as well as some more adults who cheered in their youth and are looking to have a little fun. many open 6 teams are built to house these athletes and to put together a routine that does not make them look incompetent. this team unfortunately did not stick with the k.i.s.s. rule. keep it simple, stupid. i mean, my gym has never had a level 5 team, so the girls making up my gym's open team would look at you as if you had three heads if you told them to spin a full. we put together a routine of simple, clean stunts with some level 6 elements. we're not amazing, but we're just looking to compete a clean routine and have fun doing it. if you wanna see really competitive open teams, look at the open 5 division.

I know a lot people talk about being disapointed in level 6 teams, but what do you think these kids should do? Not cheer? I'm not trying to be sarcastic, I'm just wondering cuz I hear this a lot

IMO i just really can't stand level 6 at all in all-stars. i have never seemed to like it. I think there should be guidelines made too. I have seen way to many scary level 6 teams then i have wanted. There are only a handful of open 6 teams that i am okay with watching.

Couldn't they compete International Open 5 or International Open Co-ed 5 instead of level 6?

That pyramid was downright scary. Unless something major, major, maaaajor went wrong- there shouldn't be a fall like that ever on a competition mat!

i saw this level 6 team once... screamo music the whole time, competing in tshirts, literally the hardest pass was a round off (scary) back handspring, scary baskets (bases chasing flyers, flyers not flipping the whole way), tragic pyramid, sloppy everywhere motions, had no idea how to connect jumps, stunts falling everywhere (bases collapsing, and flyers flat on the ground)... honestly in this case I don't think you should be competing. It's too dangerous to attempt skills you aren't even close to hitting. I think if you are a bad level 6 team, fine you can compete, but not if its going to put you and your team in danger.

if an open team can't compete 6 they should compete level 4.2...unless this isn't an option in the USA...it is in canada. Our level 6 team from 2 years ago were national and grand champs at two comps that year..it was awesome:) esp since we beat the coed level 6 teams as well:) our 2.5 high pyramid was sick and usually done by only coed teams but it was the best part of our routine in my opinion! miss that year!

No it's not an option here in the u.s.

Unfortunately I've seen many level 6 and college teams like this over the years...Scary:eek:

I think a major problem with many level 6 teams is the lack of coaching. Usually the gym owners/coaches are on the team, and a lot of times (not always) the team is made up of people that all coach their own team. You have the whole issue of too many chiefs and not enough indians. Everyone has their own opinion on how it should be done and nothing really ever gets accomplished. It's also hard finding truly dedicated people. With college, other cheer squads and personal life most squads lack serious dedication. I was on an open team once where one of our practices consisted of 30 minutes of tumbling then heading down the road to the bar.

I think open level 5 is somewhat not an option too though. From what I've seen its mostly older guys in their 20's & 30's and then all the girls are tiny little 15 year olds, not leaving an option for any girls over 18.
