What if no one had to change their scoresheet but every score from every event was presented by a percentage of perfection? People could still always score how they always have but at least for the parents they'd be able to see how they score and understand it more?

I think it would be a good step.

That's 3 out of 3...should pass, huh?

There are a couple organizations that do percentage of perfection....it's a lot easier to explain to the kids when we're going over score sheets.

Curious to what the resistance to this would be. Every scoresheet in Cheerleading has a max score you can get. Every single one. Your final score is a percentage of what's possible. How every single EP arrives to that number can be completely different and no one would have to change how they score. Just take a teams final score and divide by the points possible.

Shouldnt be too hard to put on the scoresheet since it's pretty simple math, or you could just do it for your parents.

Only minor issue with percent of perfection is with using it to compare various levels when they are scored out of different amounts of points-
6.5 out of 7 and 8.5 out 9. Seem like they should be the same score both are .5 from perfect but one is 92.9 and the other is 94.4

I think cross level comparison is a minor issue. I think it is outweighed by the fact that parents will never have to be confused why they got a 425 one and lost and a 9 the next week and won. And no EP has to. Change how they do things.

Can I register a complaint about people worrying if Twinkles outscore Shooting Stars? The comparison shouldn't matter.

If a pee wee football team scores 30 points in a game, it doesn't mean they are better than the Atlanta Falcons when they score 20.

Get over it people.

The only comparison is to the other teams IN THE SAME DIVISION AT THAT EVENT.

Like I said minor issue, but it does make a difference when it comes to grand champs and program type awards

Higher levels are mathematically easier to score higher BUT skill wise harder to score higher. And only a varsity issue that they already deal with. Not an issue.

If you averaged percent of perfection across each part of the scoresheet, like ex: ST+RT+STUNTS+PYRAMID/4 , everything would be worth the same at the end but harder to increase perfection in stunts versus tumbling if one category had more points.

That's something completely different than what I'm talking about. I'm not trying to change results of a comp, just make them more consistent to read from comp to comp.

Getting the EPs to agree on this kind of stuff is like herding cats.
I've never tried herding cats. I will go and report back my findings!

ETA: But no really, I really like this idea. It makes things across the board so much easier to understand for everyone!

So here is an example of what it would look like. Last year in the Semi Limited Coed division at CHEERSPORT the results were (just places 1 - 5):

1. ACE - 855
2. Georgia - 847
3. CEA - 838.4
4. GT - 832.5
5. CMC - 795.6

Would just be displayed out of percentages (so out of 900 points possible):

1. ACE - 95
2. Georgia - 94.1
3. CEA - 93.1
4. GT - 92.5
5. CMC - 88.4

Something that just looks more explainable to all the parents. It would be consistent. Jamfest does the old style of Varsity scoring that looks like Olympic scoring. It would be easily converted to this display the way Varsity does theirs already. It would provide cross event consistency AND, the big bonus of the EP's, you will easily be able to see comparatively what kind of winner each EP wants.
