I took my ACT's in 2010 with a mechanical pencil... When the lady walked around to check our pencils I showed her my other one.
And I'm sure you got your score perfectly fine
Haha, was literally just coming on here to post the same thing. This is so much worse than when I competed after 10.30pm two days in a row!

They wouldn't even let us fill out our student packet for the ap test with a mechanical pencil. What are these people so afraid of? I promise using a mechanical pencil isn't making me any smarter or giving me magic powers.

That's dumb, I'm sorry, but there are also plenty of other ways to potentially cheat on stuff like that, but you're not going to get away with it. Every test I've taken (which I've taken the act, sat, and an ap test) we've been so closely monitored there's no way I could pull a paper out of my pencil without someone noticing. All through high school I was told they don't allow mechanical pencils for big standardized tests (like AP, ACT, SAT, etc.) because you can hide little cheat sheets or something inside the pencil. Like if you take out the eraser and put stuff inside it? It's not necessarily because they don't "work" or give you some kind of advantage, but its another way for people to cheat.
That's not chicago. :(
I probably won't go - saving up for my pool! (and I just. do. not. like. Jay-z.)

They're afraid of losing their jobs since their income is tied to those test scores. I personally bought each students pencil when I tested. And I'm sure you got your score perfectly fine

I'm from New Jersey and my boyfriend is from Eastern North Carolina. He says that he finds it very rude on my part when I don't say yes ma'am/sir.I have another northern/southern question. If I'm down south and I don't say "yes/no ma'am" or "yes/no sir" will people think I'm rude? Or no because they can tell by my apparent accent (real talk: Wisconsinites totally don't have accents!) that I'm not from the south? Just another random question I've always wondered about.

But you could do that with pens too and they don't restrict what pens you can use, other than color. All through high school I was told they don't allow mechanical pencils for big standardized tests (like AP, ACT, SAT, etc.) because you can hide little cheat sheets or something inside the pencil.
