I'm the operations manager for the dance studio. My kid is in 3 dances, which I will not get to see, and I have to buy a dvd. (What? I. work. here. ) I really do love working here, I swear. But basically it's like having 200 kids. Because every. single. mom. here. thinks their kid is the only one in the recital. It's like most jobs - it's 49 weeks of a pleasant job, and 3 weeks of my own personal he!!. The recital itself actually isn't for 2 more weeks... :help::help::help::help::help:
Recitals were the main reason I did not encourage former cp to continue with dance when she didn't like dance studio she joined when we moved to Long Island from Queens. I just couldn't deal with the whole costumes for each routine and waiting on line for tickets mentality.

I didn't know where to post this so I'll just ask here.
Does anyone know of/have suggestions for a good camera for taking pictures of cheerleaders? I run a college cheer blog and my university allows me to be on the sidelines, but I have no idea what camera would be the best. I don't really have the funds for anything over 1,000 but I would still like a quality camera. Thanks!
I have a canon t3i that works well for cheer! We got a package @ SAMs club for $999 that included the camera, a close lense, a far lense, and a few memory cards. They're expensive but worth it and you can probably find a good deal like we did!

the best action shots, IMO, come down to using settings on the camera, vs. type of camera. don't be afraid to take it off automatic and tinker with all of the settings. other than that, i think it's more about the lenses than the actual camera. i prefer canon, but nikon and other brands are just as good. i chose canon because my dad, who is actually a photographer, had canons, so all of his lenses would be compatible with my camera. so you could always get the camera now and invest in more lenses later if this is something you choose to continue doing.

i realize home shopping network is going to sound like a crazy suggestion to buy your camera... but seriously they have the BEST deals and starter sets with extra lenses and accessories. Best Digital SLR Cameras with Reviews at HSN.com (and payment plans, should you need them)

Take Dramamine. It's intended to help alleviate car sickness. But, it'll make you very sleepy.

I was offered a spot on an i5 team, I am so incredibly excited!! The only issue is, my parents don't really want me to cheer on an int'l team at the same time as my freshman year of college & first year of college cheer. Also, it's and hour and 40 minutes away from my school. It's a been my dream to compete at worlds and I made a promise to myself I wouldn't retire until it happened. My injuries are getting worse and worse so this will probably be my last year. I'll most likely never get another opportunity like this, how do I convince my parents to let me do this?

Aww congratulations!! I know how much you want it so I'm happy you are getting the opportunity! It definitely will be a busy schedule with college cheer, too, but it is manageable if you schedule your time wisely. Most I5 teams are not nearly as time and cost intensive as regular all-star teams - the don't practice as much and don't compete as much and often only travel for Worlds. Are your parents aware of that? Maybe they have how much time you spent with all star cheer in the past in their heads which is making them concerned you wouldn't be able to keep up with school.
Also, many gyms are very flexible with I5 teams, and if you arranged it ahead of time, you could miss some practices in September in order to get comfortable with your class and college cheer schedule before adding all 3 at once. Good luck - I hope you can make it happen!

shimmied for congrats, not the dilemma!! i know you've worked for this, so i'm happy for you!

will your parents be financially funding this team for you? if so, their opinion matters... if not, well... you can kind of make that decision on your own now. not that you should ever lie or go against their wishes.

are their other people on your new school team who also do the i5? what's their practice schedule (1 day a week? 2?) what's their comp schedule? what's the cost? all of these things could drastically help your case with your parents. my guess is its cheaper with significantly less travel and comps. polar opposite of what you would do on a senior team. which they may not fully realize, since they're still in WC mode. success stories of other girls on the college team who have done both will help too. and any sort of carpool set up. you will always be their baby and they will always worry. especially if you're driving nearly two hours in the dark, late at night, in a place they are unfamiliar with and where they cannot just jump in the car to save you should you get a flat tire etc.

i hope you can make it work!! good luck!
