I honestly never thought of it as a bad thing, if we have time I'll do it. This year is the first year she has late practices, so it feels like forever before we are at the gym. Boredom I guess, we go home after the gym and she showers so it's not really out in public except pics I post on Facebook or pics she posts on IG. The people at the gym just knows that's what she likes to do. Also about the makeup and sweating it off or looking bad thing others mentioned- she doesn't really sweat it off and looks the exact same at the end of practice. She probably isn't quite the age to be worked that hard.

But
Good question @Just-a-Mom I'll let you know if I ever come up with a great valid answer! Lol

I feel like I'm a teenager again saying this...but I need some cheering up. Boyfriend is out of town and w/o phone for a week. What in the world do I do with myself besides fierceboard?!

Text bomb him. My friend went to Canada last summer and couldn't use her phone, so I texted her at least once a day and sometimes when I was bored sent a bunch at once. It was a lot of fun, more than you'd think

OK. I just gotta know... What's with wearing make-up to practice? (for both cheer and dance)

I'm not talking everyday make-up that you wear anywhere... I'm talking full blown competition make-up. I keep seeing this on Facebook, Twitter, etc. - pictures of kids heading off to practice and they have red lipstick, glittery/smoky eyes, etc. What in the world? These kids usually range in age from 6 to 12.

I get it for camp and choreo (I mean... I really don't, but at least that's a "special practice") but for regular, weekly practice? Just... Why? (and pleeeeeeeease don't tell me it's so they "get used to wearing it" - that's nonsense. No one does that)

Seriously... Stop it.

I guess your kids are in the wrong sports/activities aren't they? Doesn't really bother me for cheer or dance since practices are supposed to make you competition ready. The ones who confused me were the girls I coached in hockey doing it since their helmets and face masks covered everything.

But whyyyyyy? (in my whiniest voice lol) Every other performance activity in the universe is able to practice, rehearse, choreograph, etc without it - as do the most successful cheer gyms. So I'm not buying the "to get used to it" or "so we can see how everyone looks, with everyone matching" excuse. I would love to hear a logical explanation for why a 10 year old needs red lipstick and glittery smoky eyes for practice (and why people then question why cheerleading is seen as pageant-like and not a sport... )

Yes.

Like... My 19 year old? Yes. Everywhere she goes. But I wish my 12 year old would ask me could she wear red lipstick to dance camp. No. N. O.

I don't get it. I'm sorry, but I couldn't care less if she "feels fierce" - she needs to feel 12. The only place she wears make-up is if she is performing. Her school does not let any of them wear it - K-8, no make-up at all, even lip gloss. Irish dance? No make-up for anyone 12 and under, unless they are competing championship levels (new rule this year).

I don't get it. Different strokes, I guess.

I didn't say that I agreed with it lol but I get the logic behind it for the gyms that encourage/require it. My kids still take time to put their hair in a neat ponytail but they don't ever wear makeup to practice or tease their hair. They put a little more effort in on camp and choreography days but it isn't pushed at their new gym. I don't really care one way or another except it is terrible for their skin. Lord knows I snuck makeup to school in 7th grade and wore more electric blue eye shadow, hot pink blush and red hooka lipstick than anyone should ever have even considered, and although a few may disagree I think I turned out ok:D

I've never disagreed with a post so much that I felt the obligation to dislike it. This such a new feeling for me.

Nope. Because my kids don't wear make-up to practice or rehearsal and they're fine. :p

They need to practice in make up to be competition ready? Come on... :D As I said, 90% of performance based sports teams are able to get it together without makeup at practice. Let's be real - no one needed makeup for practice before "cheerlebrity" became a word.

But anyway... No biggie. Just something I'm noticing more and more and wondered if I was the only one thinking it was odd.

(Side note - just to clarify, I'm really talking about the under 12 set. I don't really care if a 14 year old gets dolled up for practice - they're teenagers; of course they want to look gooooood! I'm talking about 3rd graders in red lipstick on a Tuesday afternoon, heading to regular weekly practice.)

The under 12 set is definitely a big young.

Q: never having a female cp for more than a few seasons of pop-Warner is competition makeup harder on the skin than every day makeup?

My 13 year old is make-up obsessed and can apply make-up beautifully. Her dream is to become a make up artist. Anyway, she/I get so many side-eyes whenever we are out and sometimes from relatives. She looks young for her age, but still. I don't see the big deal. Barely related to the convo, I know. ;) She doesn't wear make-up to the gym, but we have a local gym that requires it. *shrug* I'd be bothered by the expense, to be honest.

Here she is in what she considers a daily face...

Apologies as I wasn't attempting to be offensive. Can't do emojis from my phone app.

I wasn't exactly offended... I just felt that it feeds into the stereotype that cheerleading is an exclusive activity for only pretty, prissy people, which is something I hate. Like to imply, that a child doesn't belong in cheerleading because they don't like drag-face....

But personally, I cringed every time I had to put my then 8 year old niece in a teal smokey eye and red lip last season.

I cheered for over 10 years... and I find myself breathing a sigh of relief that my niece will not be cheering again until shes old enough for school cheer.

And actually I went to my little cousins gymnastics meet a few months ago...she wore lip gloss and shes 12, so I really...REALLY question the necessity of all of this make up for cheerleading,
