What scares me even more than a Trump presidency is the balance of power. Republicans to took control of the Senate and the House as well. One party now controls two of the three branches of the government. A number of the liberal leaning Supreme Court justices are aging. Given that you serve life terms, they are likely to retire to die during Trump's presidency. That gives him the ability to nominate conservative justices, which will be approve by a conservative senate. (In an attempt to get him approved by a conservative Senate, Obama nominated a moderate justice to replace Scalia. A liberal one would have likely not been approved, so this lessens the number of liberal representation on the court.)

Get a few more conservative voices on the Court and WHAM BAM just like that one party now runs all three branches of government. THAT IS NOT CHECKS AND BALANCES. You have to look past party affiliations and realize that is not good.
PS - If you don't like this idea, forget 2020. REGISTER TO VOTE NOW and vote for democratic representation in 2018 (or any other chance you get)

If you like one party controlling everything we do as a nation, carry on I guess.

Quick answer on the electoral college....Basically, your electoral votes are the same amount as your representation in congress. More people in your state = more representation in congress = more electoral votes. It is rare for the person winning the popular vote to not also win the electoral vote. This election is the 5th time it's happened in Presidential voting history.
Im i understanding this correctly then... Basically voting didnt matter per say, because congress liked trump more.
I voted clinton, my husband voted johnson.

‘Parks and Recreation’: Leslie Knope Writes Letter to America Following Donald Trump’s Victory

This is semi-comforting. Not entirely comforting, but comforting in an I'm-gonna-escape-reality-for-a-little-bit-and-imagine-I'm-in-this-fictional-world-that-Leslie Knope-exists-in-and-forget-about-the-past-few-days-because-I-still-can't-wrap-my-head-around-this-country-choosing-a-man-who-ran-his-campaign-on-fear-and-hate kind of way.

I mean, I wanted a revolution and a reform of government too. This isn't the way though.

Adam Ruins Everything explains this well. (Great TV show btw, highly recommend it!)

No. Each state has a certain number of electoral college votes. The number of votes is equal to your state's number of reps in Congress (which is related to population, at least for house of reps). Most states have a winner-take-all approach to their electoral votes. A candidate needs 270 electoral votes to be president.

Therefore, like happened this year, it's possible for a candidate to win the popular vote but not the election. Winning the election isn't about winning a majority of the population, but it's about winning the right combination of states to get to 270.

What I'm most curious about is how many of these people who voted for Trump, actually know minorities? I live for the news and world events but I would dead wrong in generalizing immigrants and Muslims for what I see in the news. I've went to school with immigrants from these war torn countries. The kids that want to get education and help their families. Who have never experienced basic human rights. My high school was minority majority school in a very liberal county. I have grown up with children of immigrants, children who were immigrants. The fear was so bad that our school had to release a statement that our schools are safe zones and would work to protect students. I guess if you don't have to worry about whether your best friend who wears a hijab is going to be attacked or persecuted for practicing her religion, you don't have to care about the divisive policies of your President.

the fat that that flag was upside down doesnt tell you anything???? sure he is not the worst out there but he is still republican and the house and the senate (or the congress maybe?) is republican too (remember im swedish so if that is incorrect please correct me) and MANY of republicans are conservative and really religious.. Me as a LGBTQI+ person dont feel good aout this presidency and i live halfway across the world. People are talking about this here in sweden. we have a racist party in our verion of the congress (the Riksdag) and there polling numbers looks like they may be controllig sweden in 2 years when we have our next election and alot of them are homophobic and sexist too.

I looked a black 6th grade boy dead in the eyes on Monday when he came into the media center with an Iraqi Muslim girl and straight up told him he had nothing to worry about when he asked if "________ was going to have to go back"

I can't help but feel like I lied to the child. Whatever happens is going to happen but I have a serious problem looking at these kids while having the sinking suspicion that things in the end may not be okay for them or for us.

The stories of hate crimes that have happened in the 36 or so hours after the election was called are sickening

I thank God that I have compassion for my fellow man, and cannot turn a blind eye and defend such hatred just because it doesn't happen to me, or hasn't happened to me yet.

Do you know many American republicans? I do and don't know very many who are anti LGBT. I consider myself and independent with republican leanings and I am not overly religious and feel that someone's choice of partner or gender is none of my business. It's and unfair generalization to say republicans, or even many republicans are any of those things. There is a HUGE amount of diversity within BOTH major parties in the US as far as who believes what. I don't think you can really make those kinds of generalizations about either party.

You didn't lie to him. No one is getting "sent back". That is alarmist hype. Those "hate crimes" were going on (ON BOTH SIDES) before the election too, now they have a media platform someone to blame. I just read a story about a white Trump voter who is in ICU thanks to a beating by 3 black men. The whole thing is sad and being fed by the media.

I cried so hard. I wasn't raised to hate and for the life of me I can't understand why people are so threatened by people who don't look like them.

I can tell you don't really diversify your news. You posted an article from the Washington Times which is notoriously conservative. And the fact that you just said hate crimes were on both sides is offensive and dangerous. I'm not saying my race is flaw-free but the fact there is a documented, and systematic trend of minorities being shot and killed, many of which not even reported on the news. It was a white man that shot up a Church. It was a white man that shot a teenager walking home. Hate crimes for minorities-especially Black ones, has been going on for centuries.

So the truth is offensive? I'm sorry for that. One article doesn't mean I don't "diversify my news". You are making a lot of assumptions. I do read a wide variety of news sources. Not just CNN, MSN, FOX, ect. I take it all with a grain of salt and a look at the agenda of the source. Everyone should do the same. CNN isn't an unbiased news source.

Perhaps others need to diversify as well. Liberal media outlets aren't going to report violence against Trump supporters as it doesn't fit their narrative.

Okay. I'm a journalism student. I read and watch everything. What you said is the truth (though I would like a source) but to simplify hate crimes of minorities and sporadic incidents with Trump, is ignoring a much larger issue.

No, no, no 2018! 2018 is midterms for Congress; work on flipping their seats and make them lose their control.

I'd also start spamming your state reps in Congress about revoking the new guy's access to the nuclear codes and the ability to send us to war and ask for permission later. In case you were wondering, we haven't done a Declaration of War since WWII. And while our government does have built in checks and balances, Congress has given the President access to a lot more than just what the Constitution prescribes.

Use google. It is out there from multiple sources, including video. Honestly if you read everything (not just the liberal everything) I cannot believe you haven't seen it, because its come across my feed 4 different times from different places.
