I think you declare early, by March 1st. No shenanigans after tryouts for kids and makes people be more stable.

So then you have to declare before tryouts, before you really know who is going to be returning to your program, or joining your program. I think you are right in the less shenangins factor but a lot of gyms have no clue until August where their teams will actually be true level. I like the early declare.

Then a ton of gyms will go D2 to be safe, instantly providing a ton of competition for D2.

I also think D2 would pull a lot of first, second year small programs that have not started from a merge or gym closing into competitions as well. I know the comp company I used to work for got a lot of those programs because they felt they had a chance even if they did not have squad skills to max difficulty.

because if someone is winning they probably have an unfair advantage.

if someone has a custom voice over they have an unfair advantage. the only team that seems to have an unfair advantage is P.C. Allstars (politically correct).

What if - just asking - after 5 years a gym must move from D2 to D1? That way no gym could stay in D2 forever. As gyms close and new ones open up D2 would always have decent numbers.

Why?

Just thinking about it out loud, that's all.

If gyms stayed out of D1 because for example they were afraid to compete against any of the Big name gyms, or other local gyms which always seems to be a complaint then at the end of 5 years to grow their program, they would have to eventually compete against the Big name gyms. They could not stay D2 to avoid local competition which is what some will complain gyms are trying to do.

@flyermom i think you are sorely mistaken on all of these top level 5 teams. I would find it hard to believe that these large gyms are just cutting tons of level 5 athletes so they can "stack" a team. Also, these large gyms have multiple level 5 teams that they are trying to make competitive.

For example, the following programs have multiple worlds teams that can be very competitive in their respective division. These do not count their intl open teams which can also pull athletes from the traditional sr divisions (i think everyone one of my examples has at least one version of an intl team going to worlds)

Cheer Athletics Sm. sr. and Semi Coed
California Sm Sr Sm, sr limited coed, and Unlimited Coed
Stingrays Sm Sr, Lg sr and Large Limited Coed
World Cup Lrg. sr, Lg limited coed, and sm sr
CEA Lg sr. Sm sr. unlimited coed, and I think they have some other worlds team
Md Twisters Lg. sr. sm. sr., sm limited coed.

So, who exactly is "stacking" their worlds team? It seems that the large gym has to spread the wealth between their worlds teams to be competitive.

The was in response to the question that was asked back in earlier post at the top 5 teams always being the same. Socrates listen to what you are saying. In one post you say that it is hard for large gyms to get level 5 teams and kids. In this post you say they have lots of level 5 teams that they are trying to make competetive. The top gyms are the best because they do it correctly. This post was not about the top teams having an advantage, it was simply a question posed because an earlier poster said that the teams, besides the top teams are going strictly to finish in top ten. It was simply a question then, if their should be two divisions then. When I said stacking I meant that a large gym could take kids from other level 5 teams and use them at competitions to double team when there are injuries. Smaller teams dont have that option. No one ever said they are cutting talent. Every program you mentioned is a great program period.

I think if a program wants to compete at D2, they should be able to regardless of size. But they'll be limited in the types of competitions they can attend, and at a minimum wouldn't be able to sponsor a world's team. If anything, I'd want to have minimum requirements on who could compete D1.

But again, my big concern is what you do with programs that have teams that both fit into the D1 AND D2 model. Do you make your low-time/financial commitment teams compete at D1 for the sake of your higher level teams? Or do you make your elite teams compete at D2?

@Flyer mom I honestly have no idea what you are referring to. I never said that large gyms have a problem getting level 5 teams and athletes. I said I fail to see how Stingray's mini level 1 makes their small sr 5 better. Your argument of gym size is what I was referring to. Now, for the record, D1 and D2 sounds like a good idea to me.

Dont worry, we are so far off on what this was suppose to be about and what the point was. You are thinking I am saying one thing and I am trying to say another. No biggie!!! Once again this was not meant to put down anyone, it was to reply to an earlier post.
