Please keep us updated! I see the pros & cons to this change - interested to see how it works out!

Also, I wanted so badly to do judges certification this year but never got around to it and planned community service on the same day - maybe next year!
Just got word that they have decided not to implement this change until the 2016/2017 season...Someone had some sense I guess! I still don't agree with it but to throw it out there at the end of September would be ridiculous!

Coming from a state where the same school wins every year and every season.. I can agree with making changes in trying to give everyone a fair chance. Truly, while its a great accomplishment to be well decorated, it does get old after a while. Its like deja vu every season. I dont mean this like I think everyone should get a ribbon.. I just mean like, I want different teams to feel that feeling of being a state champion.

So I can agree with making small changes however, this change seems kind of drastic and not effective because then once the chance is implemented there will be a new winner.. and a new "best" team.. It will become a vicious cricle.

You know what gives everyone a fair chance??? HARD WORD and a dedicated coach! My CP's coach eats, sleeps and breathes high school cheer during the season. She works her booty off and runs efficient practices. She is qualified for the job and loves it. If this isn't the case for your school then hire a new QUALIFIED coach! We have no big budget...we had to fight to get a good coach and she's done amazing things with the program.

YES YES YES!!! Check the other place you posted, I said this same thing. The good teams all have dedicated people supporting them.

I get it because I live for cheer too. However, most high school coaches can't live off a $2,000 salary a year. I'm lucky cause my "day" job allows a ton of flexibility. I don't know how coaches do it without that flexibility. Also, most schools hire internally first so if a teacher who doesn't know a lot about cheer wants it, it's theirs prior to it becoming available to others outside the school

Do you feel that a team where 80% of the athletes have never cheered before and the other 20% have limited experience (i.e. 1-2 years of rec cheer) can place top 3 in Division 1 at states? Assume they practice every day, have a good coach, work hard, but have no funds for camp or tumbling classes and have 10% team BHS.

Isn't that why they implemented the game day division? I'm sorry but a team with those skills doesn't really deserve to be in the top 3 at states. That's like saying a football team with a quarterback that can only throw it 10 yards and no receivers that can catch the ball deserves a state title. Ststes should be reserved for the most talented teams IMO.

Game day is kind of boring though. How many cheerleaders, even novice cheerleaders, want to compete in that? I don't think it's fair to split just the top 8 but they should have something like a full cheer routine for novice, intermediate teams

UCA has it as a national title. The scoresheet and routine set up is much different, especially with the new rules implemented this year.

I'm still really confused on the top 8 scenario. It isn't something I have heard about at all so I am curious to see when it gets implemented next year.

Again, it's up to parents and athletes to fight for what they want. The parents that preceded me did that...hence our amazing coach.

Yeah, I'm going to say with some or even the majority of school districts that just isn't going to happen as the school district isn't going to change their policy for one activity. They would have to change it for all. I could even see some schools cutting cheer cause of drama if parents got into an uproar.

So we should just give everyone a state title then? I'm sorry but novice teams don't belong in the state tournament to begin with. States is supposed to be the best of the best. Saying a team with 10% BHS should be able to place top 3 at states is like saying a level 2 team should be able to medal at Worlds.

There's a way to go about it without causing an uproar. AD's and Administrators that don't "get it" need to be educated. The problem is no one wants to do that. They want to be able to walk into States with their 3 BHS and walk out with a trophy and call it a day.

If you put it in titles like novice division, intermediate division, advanced division I think it's appropriate. Not everyone needs a title but in order for school districts to take cheer seriously it might be necessary to add additional opportunities. Once a school takes pride in developing the cheer program will it really advance. We are talking about growing the sport.

I truly don't think most teams have this sense of entitlement. I think most of the time parents and cheer kiddos of these teams get demoralized and don't know what to do. You can't get get admin "educated" about cheer there has to be willingness to do so. I know you are personally involved in this but maybe you should reflect back on some of the barriers others have that maybe your team doesn't. Again I dont think the way they are going about it is correct but if they did change it to nca standards it would be more appropriate
