Depends on the weather and distance driving. Most of our 1 day comps are within an hour or two. If the weather is good, we drive back/forth because my CP (and I) sleep better at home.

Does it take 3 hours to get ready? It takes me about an hour to do full hair and makeup.I would get a hotel room for every comp if I could. For our Philadelphia comp last year I got up at 2AM to get her comp ready and leave the house by 5AM. We had to be at the comp by 7AM. I was a mess that day. The comp wasn't long but there was traffic coming home and I had to drop another athlete at home which was an hour out of my way.
Last season most comps were local (less than 1 hour in car) with the exception of one that was 1:30 hours away. Seeing that our meet time was super early like 8am (and knowing that I had to get cp ready along with a 5 yr old etc) so we booked a room about 10 mins from comp. ended up being awesome decision. Didn't have to wake up at the crack of dawn and made it in time before parking lot was packed full!! But that's the only time. Hotels are not cheap and rather save money for out of state comps then constantly booking a hotel.
Now for this season a lot of the local comps are on south jersey (over an hour away) so I'm considering looking into hotels once we get closer to comp date and know meet times etc. if it's early in the morning possibly getting a room especially since both kids are now cheering. But if it's an afternoon meet time then nah I'll just drive There and back...
But who is driving? You or your mom. Mom may feel like the hotel stay is worth the money to keep her from being exhausted driving it all in one day. If mom wants to spend it, let her. I tried driving it all in one day a few times. Not anymore. I'm getting too old for that. I booked hotels for all our one days except two that happen to be only two hours away. I deserve it lol.I don't like it when mum books a hotel, when we can do it in one day because I just feel like it's a waste of money.
When you have to get yourself ready plus get a sleepy, grumpy child up, fed and competition ready - yes.Does it take 3 hours to get ready? It takes me about an hour to do full hair and makeup.
Haha, she says she used to be able to drive long distances and not get tired but now she prefers to rest. Which is understandable, I'm just energetic but I probably won't be when I'm older! But who is driving? You or your mom. The both of us have to shower, get dressed then do hair. My showers are 15 minutes, hers are at least 45 minutes. Then hair takes up most of our time. She has A LOT of hair. Thank gawd we only did half up, half down for 2 day comps because curling all that hair with a wand took me forever. On the bright side, I only had to touch it up on day 2 which is about 10 minutes.Does it take 3 hours to get ready? It takes me about an hour to do full hair and makeup.
