Which uni team do you coach? Because the uni team I am on costs $300 each term not $300 for the whole year!! I am struggling so much with fees and haven't even bought my new shoes or uniform yet..

Oh wow, that sounds expensive! I coach Macquarie University, and I'd say it's one of the cheapest uni cheer programs in Aus. This year I charged my athletes $250 registration fee (entire year's cost) and then uniform fees (approx $300 if a girl, $200 if a guy), and that's it for the year. The rego fee covers all the usuals - music, choreography, gym hire, coaching fees, as well as AASCF Insurance and competition entry for the entire year. I know, by comparison, UNSW charges $420 for the entire year (and then obv uniform fees on top of that). What uni team do you cheer for?

Part of the reason it is so low (lower than last year) is because this year I have 50 athletes (last year, in our first year, I had 12) so that helps a lot to cover the costs, and secondly is I basically pay myself nothing. On average, not including coaching time, I'd say I put in about 20-30+ hours a week of work (admin stuff etc, cause I run the program as well, completely by myself), which is on top of working 3-days per week at my law firm job and completing a double-degree at Uni. So basically I do it becuase I love cheer and I love growing the sport and introducing people to the sport.

I'm thinking of upping the cost though in future years, even if it's by $100, because it's a bit unmangeable at the moment. Although I definitely think you can make it cheaper than $300 per term (and still make a profit on it as well as a coach/program director etc!)

auscheerflyer how much do they charge you for your shoes btw? If the person who runs your program shops around a little, you can end up saving a huge amount as opposed to just getting them straight from AASCF or another supplier. (Eg. I know my brother paid $110 for his Nfinity Evolutions that Starlets got for him, I got the same shoe for my athletes at $75 each (total cost incl. shipping)) Depends how much work your coach wants to put in to get them cheaper! Haha.

I would just like to keep everyone's focus on the real problem here....

There is no problem with our "image" and there is no need for the USASF to dictate dress for the ALL programs. If they
(or the few people that insist on applying their standards to others) feel that a particular uniform is to short, provocative, glitzy, or whatever else they can come up with then that INDIVIDUAL program should be diciplined.

Furthermore most of you are missing the bigger argument that we are allowing too much UNCHECKED power to be acquired by the USASF along with an outdated and out of touch Executive Board. If they can mandate change without a vote by a majority of member gyms, coaches then this is just the beginning. crop tops, makeup, and bows today....whats next Shoes?? hairstyle?? Today its double fulls and bounding skills....tomorrow it could be basket tosses, stepping out of a punch front (which I would argue has injured more then its fair share), or jumps to back???

The point is that we cannot allow one organization to operate without membership checks and balances, and we should never allow the voices of a few dictate what should be decided by the majority.

I am with you Coach Troy. Here's a thought: Whether or not this is a good guideline for AS cheer, we, the gym owners, should be able to vote on it with the majority ruling. Everyone seems to be missing this point. How many times can it be said. Its not the rules/the guidelines....its the roughshod way it was done.

Exactly who should be more represented then the gym owners??!! I am not sure how we got to this place where we have just surrendered our sport to EP's that only exist because of our dollars and an Executive Board that we did not elect.

understandable, heres my take on this (may not actually relate to what your saying but try to follow anyways lol) if the USASF is having such a big problem they should take it up with the uniform companies (considering they are part of them technically anyways) uniforms should be properly fitted to the athlete, seamstress coming in and measuring each girl to ensure a proper fit because the whole heres a uni tell me how it fits and how much you want off doesnt work how is one to know that it will actually fit and how it will look i cannot tell you how many uniforms i have had that have no fit me because of this, my best fitting uniform was my second year of cheerleading when one of the parents who was a dance and skating costume designer came in fitted us twice and made them all not only were those uniforms properly fitted they were cheaper too i guess the thing is gyms do not always know how big or small something should fit all they really know is that they like how nice it looks and how they feel it represents their gym and in regards to ruling like its been stated before designs should be approved in size OR their should be a rule stating that uniforms should not expose specifics areas or blah blah blah instead of saying this type uni for this level/age and this size for this covered by that

That entire paragraph was one sentence. That's impressive!

(kinda sorta kidding with this picture)

Having a crop top is not a necessity - wearing full tops will not make skills any more difficult or unobtainable. If you love cheering, what difference does some fabric make? There is no valid argument against full tops, other than the cost to teams, in my opinion.

no one is half naked that is just silly.....they are dressed as much as any others female sports

I think you mean some female sports, not any because softball, gold, tennis, and basketball players are covered by more fabric then a cheer uniform. The only sports that come close would be gymnastics (which still have regulations), volleyball, and swimming.

The only other female sports I'd say we're dressed more then is Dance (some), Beach Volleyball, and arguably Gymnastics. So, I'd say we're pretty bare.

Well my opinion is that those softball, basketball, and tennis players are pretty naked as well and since that is my opinion they better change that right now since it is only my viewpoint that matters (get the sarcasm ???? I hope so )

Softball players wear pants and shirts...basketball players wear tank top jerseys and knee length shorts...and tennis players wear skirts and tank tops/ shirts.. We wear tops that generally expose our entire stomachs, and booty shorts/skirts.

Not if you don't want to.....and that's the point wear what fits your personal choice and stop thinking that your opinion on the matter should translate into rules that everyone has to obey.
