I feel when the levels were made.....many years ago, they did not have as many children that had the elite skills, doubles standing fulls, and elite combination passes. SO, as the bar has been raised by all of these children the division of skills between level 4 and 5 has become much broader. They made (open, now restricted) level 5 to give the children with these middle skills somewhere to use them. Huge difference between a layout and a double full.... If they were 12 and over they possibly could go to worlds, some of them are just as good as the level 5 teams I saw there this year. But with the age requirements as they are now, it would be a bunch of junior and youth age kids going to worlds which they were trying to get away from.

This was essentially the argument PLUS, many small gyms were saying they were losing athletes to the bigger gyms because they had such a variety of ages with the skills and couldn't form a team. I'd also like to mention that up until this coming season, you could standing full and do more with baskets (if I remember). Since it started to detract from the original purpose of kids with basic fulls and the concept of small gyms 'getting their feet wet' in level 5, THAT'S why the skill bar was lowered slightly. This is meant to be a learning division..

Standing fulls and doubles do not define a level. There are a ton of other level 5 skills. These teams can still do ALL of the stunts and pyramids that standard level 5 teams do. It is just giving them time to develop their tumbling without the pressure to get a double and a standing full.

so is a double and a standing full but they cant do those
the point i'm making is it is this division is not just a level 5 for stunts...yea a double and standing is a level 5 skill, and no you can't do it on open...but you can still throw level 5 tumbling hence a full and jumps to back

What makes it not a level 5 division?

they can do fulls and 3 to backs etc....and kick doubles....but they cant hitch kick double...so it is a 5...but restricted...:)

What's the point of this level? Why would they name it a level 5 division when in all actuality it isn't?

I know it's a level 5 division but ElitePanthers said the above so I wanted to get her opinion on why she thinks it actually isn't a level 5 division. SrOpen 5 now Restricted 5 can do all level 5 skills except for (tumbling) double fulls, (starting this season) standing fulls and basket tosses may not exceed 3 tricks. No they cannot go to World's but that doesn't mean it is not a level 5 division.

Sr Open 5 now called Restricted 5 is a level 5 division. NO they can't throw double fulls, standing fulls, basket tosses may not exceed 3 tricks, and NO they can't go to Worlds but that doesn't mean it is not a level 5 division. Does every athlete on a "Worlds team" have a double full or standing full??? IMO there are many teams who go to Worlds and shouldn't be there at all. There were So5 teams this last season (to name a few: Top Gun, Cali, & Brandon) who shouldve been givin a bid before a lot of Worlds teams that did. As a matter of fact our gyms Sr Open 5 team this last season out scored Worlds teams all the time at our local/State Comps. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying Sr Open/Restricted teams belong at Worlds but I am saying they are a LEVEL 5 division.

is this essentially what they did a few years ago with the 4A division?

sounds like someone is on a senior restricted team...

Just because they can't do the hardest skills in the level, doesn't mean its not that level

Honestly though, how many teams did you see at worlds with 1-3 doubles and maybe 1 or 2 standing fulls? There were at least 25 teams at worlds (thats being nice) that should have gone in the Restricted Level 5 division.

I thought 4A was just letting some girls on the team throw fulls and that was the only change? And that was only a few companies that allowed that.

LOL, that's funny, for the record I'm not, I just read the rules and know what is allowed on a restricted team; and if I were on a senior restricted level 5 team..I would be proud of it :cheering:

What year was this? Not to hijack, but I'm having a sudden recollection of this level/division but I can't remember what it entailed 'cause I didn't compete that year..

The point of the level is to give a step from Level 4 to 5 without having to have all the 'doubles' required to be competitive (a common complaint among small gyms of why they cant be competitive). As well there is no age floor (so you can fly 9 year olds).

Worlds does not need more teams, and in fact I wish the would raise the age floor to 14. How interesting would that be?
