Fine. I'M talking about Jamie Parrish and the hilarity that he's on this list. Everyone happy? Good. :D

PS- I'm pretty sure some other people have mentioned it's hilarious that he's on here, whether directly by name or not. I don't have a personal vendetta, I just think he's come off as INCREDIBLY childish in the last few years regarding this same thing, and now it's all sunshine and roses..

I do find it interesting he is on the list, after his little tirade about the 'two best cheerleaders in Georgia.'

Gotcha. I really think JP dug his own hole and pretty much there is very little respect left for him in general. I guess I don't see the point in going on a rant about him when he is clearly what um, he is...LOL

For a long time I enjoyed the routines and very much cheered that gym on..having been exposed to facets of his nature, that respect and interest has since waned.

Sad thing, that.

It might be that I'm naive, but what I got out of this "cheerlebrity free" thing, is that gym owners dont want parents promoting their own children, and they dont want their kids doing anything that will draw attention to themselves, rather than the team. If a kid is recognized for their skills, thats fine, they just dont want any crazies intentionally trying to work their way up the fame ladder.

I don't think there are any agendas or bashing or hate that's involved with this.

I'm all for the pledge and bringing order to something that isn't going away. My discomfort is primarily where the pledge came from and the reasoning behind that individuals motives.

And if you're going to sign a "Cheerlebrity Free Zone" pledge then you should make sure you don't have any in your gym or have recruited any prior to that because otherwise you're just being a hypocrite. There's nothing I can't stand more than a hypocrite.

Ok, so the eternal optimist in me thinks that perhaps said hypocrite has seen how out of control this is getting and has learned a lesson.

How is it seeing the errors of their ways when in September when I started this thread they where bashing cheerlebrities that had decided to go to a gym they consider a rival gym. Now 5 months later they're pushing a national, industry wide "Cheerlebrity Free Zone" pledge?

Plus all the Big Rich Atlanta and having their cheerleaders on a WB show is all recent. Again, I think the pledge is fine but if you're going to spear head the whole thing, practice what you preach. Don't make it look one way to the cheer industry when to the rest of the world you're starting a talent agency and putting your kids in the public spot light. So cheerlebrities are bad but true celebrities are good?

I'm not quoting this particular post for any other reason than I agree wholeheartedly with everything you have said. This particular persons status came up when two of my friends on Facebook (one being my younger sister) liked his status. Immediately I flashed back to that persons statements on a documentary and a news story

I don't think it's the existence of "cheerlebrities" that are the problem. I think its the general (increasing) fervor to which they're responded to that is the problem. Let's face it - if everyone had decent "home training" and didn't run up screaming like crazed Bieberfans when they got a glimpse of a "cheerlebrity" and hunt them down at competitions like they're entitled to a picture with a perfect stranger, this wouldn't be an issue at all. Even if you buy the argument that they promote themselves online (which I'm not weighing in on one way or the other) it doesn't give you license to lose your ever-loving mind when you see three strands of hair from the top of their head going into warm-ups.

As a matter of fact, it wasn't the issue it is now until the poor kids from CA got mobbed at competition from a pack of ravenous cheer/leaders/fans etc. whose parents apparently never taught them socially acceptable manners.

They are most likely well known either in their own little world or in the slightly larger all star world because they are very skilled. A cheerlebrity is one that is promoted, either through their efforts, the gym's effort, or the industries effort such as print media. A popular team is one that gets a lot of attention because, well, they are amazing.

Can they be intertwined? Absolutely. All I see this "cheerlebrity free zone" pledge doing is asking all involved with the gym to stop self promoting. It's one of many steps necessary to get some control of this situation.

I know I made the comparison earlier in this thread but I'm going to do it again anyway. We don't blame famous actors/singers for being recognizable and denounce Hollywood celebrities as a whole; we denounce the crazy paparazzi who follow them around while they buy a latte and then post pictures of them sipping said latte on the way to the car like it's a million dollar shot. They are professional actors or singers who should be recognized for their talent, their music, their movies, whatever. No one is entitled to torture them for a picture or autograph on the street when they are living their daily lives, not even when they are on a movie set or recording studio. Just because they are currently in their well-known role (i.e. cheerlebrity in uniform at competition) does not mean they are open to any and all public requests.

So. Cheerlebrities aren't movie stars. But to a nine year old cheerleader, they pretty much are. This does not give said child the right to chase Susie Cheerlebrity around a competition begging for pictures or autographs. Obviously parents should be the ones who teach their kids boundaries and enforce those boundaries at all times, but we all know they don't. So there needs to be a set of rules in place by EP's to protect athlete safety and minimize the chaos. Calming the mob is what will solve the problem, not trying to set limitations on how and when an athlete can promote themselves or acknowledge personal recognition.

I love it. Live the idea. Love the person who posted it, because this person loves the kids in the gym, and doesn't give a rip about what others think of them, because the kids in the gym already know who is on their side and loves them.

Ok - so I was going to post this in the Cheer - Dangers Of Cheerlebrity | Fierce Board - We Talk Cheerleading thread but I think it's only fair to let that conversation continue as this is a different aspect of the topic.

I also think it's a bit hypocritical that one of the teams that has already agreed to the pledge has a few people everyone considers to be celebrities and is currently filming a reality show for web that they hope will make it to TV.

So, I really don't have any problem with your statement, nor does it affect me or my cp in any way. I recently read the pledge and I don't see anything stating they will not promote their gym.

I believe that this gym is not being hypocritical by promoting their TEAM. This show is about a Worlds Team that won last year. It doesn't highlight one individual but the team as a whole. I believe the pledge stated that they will discourage the media in promoting individuals but basically bring back the focus to the team. (I've attached a snap shot of the pledge because I'm terrible at paraphrasing)

With that said, It will be interesting how things play out at NCA. I think that there should be a pledge for the PARENTS, especially those who try and help their children stalk these individuals for pictures.

Thank you, that's exactly what it sounds like to me also. The truth is that not ALL cheerlebrities are recognized because they stood out on their team when they were performing. Some of them are self made in the sense that they entered cheer magazines cheerleader of the week, month, year or whatever. Some of them put out individual videos of themselves (or the parents of the kid) as a way of promoting the individual. Some use the fact that they are from a big known gym, on a winning team to help promote themselves. I think gym owners should be doing more to control this and have every right to, since it is because of the gym affiliation that this promoting many times end up working. The truth is these type of "cheerlebrities" may be talented and good but you wouldn't remember who they are if they weren't from the gym they're from.
