For books that you really don't need to keep after your class, try using chegg. My daughter uses it to rent her books and she pays around $150 a semester to rent her books for gen ed classes, and she ships them back for free.
She's a nursing major, so she doesn't use this method for her nursing related books that she will need as reference books to use in the future. I was paying $750 a semester for her books and getting $100 back at buy back!! Urgh!!

I will never understand why people still go to the bookstore when sites like Chegg exist. Occasionally I needed a book that wasn't available at Chegg but it wasn't often. My friends were spending close to 500 a semester and getting maybe 50 back, while I would pay maybe 100 total.

A teacher told me there was generally more scholarships for out of state kids so it could usually even it out or make it less than an in-state school????
It's true for some schools. At the University of South Carolina it was pretty easy to get an out of state scholarship, and once you were awarded one it knocked you down in instate tuition prices PLUS your scholarship money. It was a pretty sweet deal. I knew many out of state kids paying less than I was, and I was from 7 miles down the road.

I freaking love Chegg!! They've saved us so much money on books it's not even funny! I check with more than one place each semester to see who has the best deals for renting books and so far it's always been the best for our needs.
I really wish more people knew about getting their books this way.
My daughter ordered hers while she was home between spring/summer semester and the books were there waiting for her by the time she returned for classes and she was only home for 3 days! And they sent her some coffee, too!
Now that's service!

Whatttt! I would imagine they sold books for grad school too? I'm starting in the fall and could def use the extra bucks!

Yeah! Get on it! They get shipped to you in a little box that you hold on to with a return label inside. When the semester is over, you seal it up and slap on the return label and send them back. So easy. And they always give little trinkets with each shipment.

Chegg also used to plant a tree for every book rented- don't know if they still do that. You could also pick where the tree was planted. I think my friend and I (we shared the book and shared the rent expense) chose to plant ours in Montana or Idaho or something.

Yes they do!!! I am finding there are more grad school books that I either want to keep to reference in the future or that we need for numerous semesters though, so I think I've bought more in grad school... Depends on your program, I'm sure. But the books are there so definitely check!

I love amazon for books!! I usually wait until the first day of classes to see if I actually need to get the book and then use prime to get it in 2 days :)

I do buy some of my books at the bookstore- but only because the professor has written it and its the only place that sells it.

I don't know if this is the right place to put this, but..
What are some name ideas for a small junior 1? I can't think of anything and I'm supposed to come up with ideas. Help!

This is random, but when I heard y'all talking about Chegg I thought, my boyfriend would love this! And I was so proud for discovering it for him and I just brought it up and he was like, "yeah I have an account". Oh.

Not singling you out, but this goes for everyone attending a private college/university - paying that much for a school is a choice. There are many great state schools out there where you can get a phenomenal education without being in ridiculous debt for the next 30 years. Sadly though, what you pay for school right now is in no way over the top and is actually a great price for a private school.
I don't go to a private school
