I'll be intrigued to say the least. Cheer is such an overcritical atmosphere... if they don't get it exactly right I see people not liking it past the guest appearances. If they get one bow wrong or one name of something wrong (look at how everyone reacts to announcers and names of skills) you can lose the audience forever.

...but if they do it could be a huge hit. The cheer World is looking for something gritty, real, and not cheesy. (cause everything media related about cheer is just so dang cheesy).

Ok I'm from Tennessee and am only 19 so I can tell you first hand, it doesn't matter what they teach you it's still going to happen. Media these days makes it a constant thing in your mind and quite frankly it's a natural thing so if your not educated on how not to get pregnant then your most likely going to get pregnant. Saying that teaching abstinence only is going to not put the thought in your mind is ridiculous cause all you have to do is flip on over to abc family latest teen show and find sex everywhere!! sometimes I think abc family does a better job of teaching kids how not to get pregnant. I am a bit ashamed that my state could be so closed minded to think that.

Just because you don't teach it, doesn't mean it won't happen. It's a natural thing, and if your nor educated your more vulnerable..

The thing is with abstinence vs safe sex education the argument is:

Are you more likely to have success stopping behaviors or curbing them? The answer is you will get more positive end results (fewer pregnancies) trying to curb behavior, but you have to concede that people will be out performing the actions which you may or may not agree with.

And when it comes to these types of things you cannot look at individuals, you have to look at statistics. Yes one individual nothing would change how they acted, but as a whole when you look at the numbers you will see a good positive correlation.

They banned smoking on flights, but people still continue to do it. By having ashtrays they are not condoning smoking, but understanding that they are preventing a crash from certain peoples behavior which just cannot be stopped.

Another random point to throw out into the race discussion: Competitive cheerleading is EXPENSIVE. Thousands of dollars a year, every year. The minorities are generally more poverty stricken than Caucasians, which is of course not true all of the time but I do believe statistically it's true. Therefore, if the minorities are more likely to be in poverty, wouldn't they be less likely to be able to afford the cost of cheerleading? And if that's true, wouldn't that make less of them, thus diluting the diversity of the sport as a whole?

I can't say I agree. I consider myself upper-middle class, and have been involved with all-stars for quiet sometime. I have male friends who are considered those minorities that are on the property side, yet are in AAU basketball and go to private schools (with a scholarship but still paying thousands). Why? Because parents understand it's a way to keep them out of trouble and even out of proverty. While a cheer scholarship isn't on the end of every cheer rainbow, I know most parents will sacrifice and gyms will work with girls who truly love this sport.

I do believe this needs to be discussed maybe not on this thread but somewhere. It's the horse in the room, and honestly some people do realize the cheerleader stereotype and it's stopping them from trying. It's discouraging girls to participate because the feel they don't belong.

My thing is don't say it's a class or nonexistent gap in interest or no one cares. Obviously someone does.Now the show not having black cheerlebes isn't going to be a huge issue, but it someone will notice besides us fierceboarders. I will still watch.

AUSTIN, Texas---The world premiere of Cheer Channel’s, "CCI’s", original web series, "Secret Diary of an American Cheerleader," will debut this Monday, May 28, 2012.

Episode I: "A Girl's Gotta Cheer" will be posted on the Cheerchannel.com website at 3:00 p.m. EST.

'Secret Diary' has been created as the first dramatic series specifically produced for cheerleaders starring a cast of actual current and former cheerleaders. As a bonus, the cast also includes Cheer Channel's ‘Superstars of All-Stars’ with some of cheerleading favorites, Maddie Gardner, Whitney Love, Kiara Nowlin, Kelsey Rule, Gabi Butler, Cami Branson, Erica Englebert and Bianca Treger. Other acting cheerleaders include Kyle Blitch, former Top Gun and California All Star cheerleader and Apple Graceffa.

Support for the series is evidenced by CCI's increased growth through its multiple websites and social pages. CCI properties have increased to over 100,000 fans since the series was first announced five months ago and fan support is steadily increasing on a daily basis.

'Secret Diary' is creating such a buzz among teens, tweens, cheerleaders and fans of cheerleading, that almost all sponsorship categories such as clothing, shoes, uniforms, bows and health and beauty products have sold out much earlier than expected. Clearly the spirit industry is ready for this," said Lance Robbins, President of CCI and Executive Producer of the series.


Website traffic is growing and fans are creating their own blogs on the series.
Jenna Slonka, one of more than 1,000 "Secret Diary" followers tweeted, "@SecretDiaryShow….. Can't wait to watch this! "Some of my friends have been on it!" Cast members are quick to support the series and together with advertisers are tweeting, sharing posting through a variety of social mediums.

CCI's production company, Cheer Channel Productions, recently announced a second show moving in production, "Cheer Moms: No Time for Tears." CCI is in talks with several networks seeking a unique approach to capture the world of cheerleading and the support it gets from cheer moms.

Following the world premiere, ‘Secret Diary,” CCI plans to announce its fall slate of scripted and reality web series, including an original weekly-hosted program for the Cheer Channel.
