^^^^They have been playing it solid/safe for a few years and I don't necessarily know if it works in their favor at this point?
I mean, if it only works if say, the more innovative and difficult routines do not hit, does it actually work?
(Rays is similarly "play it solid" but the difficulty is generally there. I feel like SE's stunts always have the "this is sassy and cute but safe" factor over being difficult.)
Large senior is probably the toughest division to strategize for. There are years when it really pays to be clean and (relatively) easier. There are also years where that plan gets you 5th and looking too conservative. That division probably has the highest percentage of times that the highest raw score DIDN'T win. There have been years when 4th or 5th highest raw score won. (I know that isn't the fairest way to judge difficulty, but it is a good stand in.)
The division is so deep that you have to take some chances - either by upping the difficulty or risking it a different way by NOT having difficulty.
