We are a military family with an all star CP. There are no gyms within an hour of here and so I am wanting to start a team and eventually maybe even a full program.

I have selected a Senior Level 2 to begin with, since it is open to the greatest number of athletes and due to USASF credentialing requirements. We have a number of local middle and high schools as well as dance and tumbling studios.
I am working to become certified through ACCAA and credentialed with USASF. I've gotten quotes for insurance, gear, camps, and templates for contracts, becoming an LLC and looking to secure a practice location.

I am looking for guidance because I only have my previous experience as a gymnast/cheerleader and team mom to go on. I know what I liked from our previous gyms and what I didn't. I'm also a bit type A and if I am going to do this, I want to do it correctly, which is why I joined Fierce Boards.

Anyone interested in pointing me in the right direction? TIA

Are you planning on starting the program up for the 2014-2015 season, or do you want to jump right in?

The all-star prep division might be a good fit for you. You'll probably start with beginners with little to no experience so you'll want to test the waters in a transition division. All-star prep divisions are designed for teams that practice and cost less than regular all star teams.

Thank you for your response! :)
Because my daughter is currently cheering this season with the gym that's an hour away, I am looking at starting it up for next season (2014-2015).

I am going to the regional credentialing in February. I was thinking of advertising for try-outs I April, with try-out clinics in May followed by try-outs and parent meeting toward the end. Practices would start in June with Stunt camp in July and choreography in August.

I came across a promising lead last night after talking with an acquaintance from my hometown. A local dance studio that had a rec team that only performed at local events and recital actually started an all star program this year. I was speaking with the owner and they currently have a junior team and a senior team. This is the first year she ever considered doing all-star and currently has two coaches. I am not sure of their experience or credentials, but the owner and I are going to meet up early next month to talk about next season.

Who knows, I might be able to get some coaching experience this year to be able to get credentialed for level 3, too.

So even with the promising lead, it is their first year and we are all new to this so we are open to suggestions and pointers.

I am in the same boat as you, so im interested to see where we bothget! Im opening a cheer gym in Ohio for next season. I am currently helping coach a level 2 mini and senior squad. :)

I just got a phone call today. I am video conferencing on Monday with the owner, the manager, and the current coach who is helping get it off the ground. I am sooo excited. We are looking at a mini, youth and senior team for next year. I'm so excited!! It's literally a dream come true!
