So there has been so much discussion of "Score sheets" lately it got thinking about WHAT is MOST important in a routine. There are so many parts of a routine and I read the thread BlueCat posted about gyms "strengths" and thought "What if a Universal score sheet was different, would they change?" With that being said I am interested to here everyone's thoughts on WHAT SINGLE ELEMENT is MOST important in all-star cheerleading.

Stunts
Baskets
Pyramid
Jumps
Tumbling (Standing/Running)
Dance
Motions
If I missed something please feel free to add your own!

My opinion is tumbling. I say this because this is my strength and where I feel I am most comfortable and also see tumbling as MOST gyms highest source of income.

While tumbling is a great source of income, I don't think that is the most important aspect to a routine.

I think universally that building skills are the most important part of a routine. I would say building skills are also the most recognizable part of cheerleading.

Another reason I think building skills are important is because everyone is involved with them.

I don't disagree! Great to hear different perspectives.

I don't think I could ever say tumbling is the most important. If people really wanted to compete tumbling, there are alternate avenues for that (power tumbling etc).

I'd say either building skills or pyramids. I think these things distinquish us as 'cheerleaders' more than other elements. You can compete just tumbling, just dance...but unless you're doing stunt groups, you can't compete just stunting.

I personally believe that tumbling and building skills are equally as important. I don't believe one should outweigh the other... Tumbling is a part of cheer that takes many many years to develop individually while elite stunts can be taught to someone who joins a team within months. However, stunts/pyarmids/baskets take teamwork to be successful and are extremely hard for an entire team to master as a whole...

You could join an acro team if you wanted to just stunt ;)

I guess that's the neat thing about cheerleading though...you could take each element, separate it out, and you could find it performed in another sport...

Tumbling = gymnastics/power tumbling
Stunting = acro
Dance = dance

The ONLY element in cheer (that I can think of) that was created specifically for cheer is jumps. Right? Or am I wrong on this?

Anyhow, while I think tumbling and stunting should be given equal weight as far as scoresheets go, I think what makes our sport unique is all of the elements combined into one sport. :)

:oops:
Where I am, acro is done in the dance studios by dance instructors...I guess I just lump them together now?

Hmmm, I never knew dance instructors taught acro. I really don't know that much about it except the videos I see on youtube are amazing...

Jumps are pretty crucial in dance and gymnastics

Well, I was thinking about that, but aren't they considered more "leaps"? Gymnasts and dancers don't do hurdlers and pikes do they?

Idk about dancers, gymnasts do a variety of jumps including toe touch (straddle), pike etc.

being clean & tight! I don't care what level i'm watching...I can't stand when motions, transitions, jumps, stunting, even tumbling doesn't look clean or disciplined/controlled!

i find everything equal because if ur missing one thing what happens? of course ur score goes down
