I thought Prep levels were new this year. I know our half year teams are "prep" teams. It's like All-Star lite---less expensive, shorter routines, fewer things to hit on a score sheet.

That's what they are called now. In the late 90's/early 2000's the division we know as youth today was called junior prep and there was also a senior prep division. I'm sure tapes would be hard to find but senior prep advanced (now L5) at NCA used to be a bloodbath similar to what large senior is now

Our senior 3 got NCA level 3 high point and was awarded a paid bid so I guess they will be going!!:)

Ok bare with me because I know 'Worlds' is uh 'Worlds' but now the Summit to me feels more like what Worlds is really suppose to be... all levels, international blah blah blah...

Back before the current level system we are used (i.e. Tiny 1, Mini 2, ect.) teams had levels such as mini prep, youth intermediate, junior excel, ect. I think they changed over to the current system in 2005....

I'm kind of interested to see how this is going to turn out. If they do it like Worlds these kids will feel like the most important people at Disney!

how are coaches doing with a team at worlds and the summit? are you just planning on staying the whole week?

This has been my question. I also know of several athletes that crossover from a worlds team to a summit team. How tough is that? I'm not a fan of crossing over - but it is what it is. I've wondered all along how the timing will work. Lots of athletes and families having to either travel twice In a short period of time - or spend a lot of cash and days out of school to stay down there.

Hmmm ... It would be interesting to have a stipulation that no one on a Worlds roster could also be on a Summit roster ...

Even if that was the case - I know of an equal (if not more) number of families that have a worlds athlete and a separate summit athlete. The timing and location is proving difficult for them - Even though they love the concept. I'm sure it's going to be just as tough for coaches that often have another full time job.

That would work probably for most but I have a kid on a Worlds team and one on a Summit team. If it wasn't for the fact that we failed to get our bid for Worlds I would have to make a tough choice on who goes to which competition. My fear is you have others in similiar situations and are having to make a choice. Guess you could say I got lucky this time.
They need to do it all at the same time but that puts us back to the accomodations or lack there of that this venue allows. I also understand that you are technically dealing with two seperate companies. I'm not sure where the balance is on this one.

Do you know any teams that turned down a AL bid and went on to be awarded a PAID bid at a later competition?
As a cheer parent how would you feel if the Summit was listed as one of the competions you would be attending (if you recieved a bid) but then the gym put the bid up for vote and some of the parents voted "no" due to expense. Without trying to be insensitive to finances- how would you feel if this is something that you agreed to as part of your yearly competition schedule?

I'm sure you're aware that the paid bid only covers the housing, park admission and transportation for one child. The flight still has to be paid for as well as all other expenses for anyone else going so yes it is typically about finances.
The kids weren't aware of this competition until very close to NCA but nothing formal was discussed within the gym. After we recieved our bids we then met to determine who wanted to go and gave everyone all the information needed to make that decision. Who ever decides not to go we will simply adjust the routine accordingly or open it up to others within the gym. I guess my kids would be a little disappointed but I would be fine with it. I enjoy Disney but would like to spend that money on a vacation that didn't involve a cheer competition.
