All-Star This Seasons Comps

No gym. We use youth sports facilities on base and have rolls of foam mats that can be taped (yes, taped) together to make a 7 panel wide by about 24 feet deep total floor... If any all star gym with a nine panel floor wants to donate an hour or two to the team before our next comp, please contact me, lol - that's the hardest part - getting kids to understand spacing with a completely different sized floor (when added to the normal stresses of comps and the fact that they never practice on spring floors).

Other overhead costs of the program are paid for by the youth sports program (funded in large part by donations). I am strictly a volunteer and pay for all of my training and certification on my own dime. It is totally worth it to me. I'm certain I get more out of this gig than I give, and I'm thankful for that.

We only have seven panels too, but ours is spring. How do they do the spacing? we just don't go on the outer one at all. We treat it like the edge of the mat.

That's what I teach too, but we have mat deficits both side to side and front to back (front to back we're missing about half the total mat size) so it makes corner passes especially tough and it's just tough for kids to visualize what a full mat looks like when they've only seen one at comps. seriously, any gyms in the Nova/DC area willing to donate an hour (or rent for a reasonable fee) let me know, please! (So sorry for the thread hijack, OP!)

4 flights total. Each trip with flight. hotel, transportation (car, cabs) and spending $$$ averages at minimum 1,500.00, So 6,000 for travel alone not including gym fees, comp fees, uniforms, etc. etc. etc. I do not want to calculate it all either.

/looks back at schedule and has glittery flashbacks/ 9 out of town comps all together. Two were by plane and only my eldest went, thank goodness. I think I spend more time in a vehicle than not this season.

We have 2 competitions we have to fly (UCA and Summit) and one in Portland (spending the night in a hotel/long drive).
Our Lvl 5 team had 3, (Dallas, UCA, and Worlds)

None for me this year . If she was still in allstar this might of been her last year if this trend continues.

This year's travel - 7 flight (Indy, Atl, Dallas, Orlando, Myrtle, Atl, Nashville) not including worlds. 1 car ride of 3-4 hours (RI) I love competition but that is way out of my budget.

I have 2 girls. No flights thank God. Cheer was about $2500 not including uniform and accessories. We had 1 out of state comp which we drove to.

I could not do this if it weren't for our VERY light travel. No flights, four 2 day comps, all less than 4 hr drive, 3 one day comps. all less than 2 hrs away. Stayed one or two nights for the 2 day comps, depending on the schedule, all booked with hubby's reward points. Im guessing less than $3000 spent total for the whole season.

4-5 2 day comps (not l5) and 3 could be feasibly driven from home daily if you didn't want to stay in a hotel. The other 2, a 4 and 8 hour drive. No airfare necessary unless you were l5 or are going to summit. I refuse to add it all up...not knowing is probably safer though we room with friends to cut costs !
