*What do you see as Pro's & Con's of both.
Here are mine:
  • I LOVE the NCA tropheys, 1st place get the prestigious Megaphone tropheys, and if your team doesnt take the top spot at the competition you still get a very innovative, cool looking trophey. UCA, in my opinion, however has tropheys that are small, and dont excentuate the fact that your team is the best in the nation, and if you fall short at the competition and walk away with any place below 1st, your trophey is small and embaressing.
  • I find UCA Nationals to be a VERY professional, well ran event. They have everything running like clock work and it makes for a much better time at the Comeptition. NCA also is very good at running events but i find it to be more of a blur, it doesnt seem as time effecient.
What are your likes and dislikes about UCA and NCA...

NCA is more prestigious. UCA is cool 'cause it's at Disney

I love the prestige of NCA, but I don't like how it was run. From a spectator standpoint (I competed, but I also had to watch my sister's team, other WC teams, etc), it was way too crowded and not organized at all. From a cheerleader standpoint, I absolutely hated how long we had to wait backstage before going on! And for both, I was really annoyed by the fact that there was no priority seating. Euck. BUT, I loved the overall experience of the competition, and there were a bunch of positives that outweigh the negatives :)

I went to UCA four years ago so I don't remember it very well, but I remember that it was a lot of fun and I always love their backdrops haha! And they gave us vitamin water backstage so that was really cool ;D

The only thing that stands out to me about UCA is the location.., well run but not my fav.
NCA is defiantly more prestigious. You get a "worlds" feeling there. By far a great competition for every level.

NCA
likes: nice jackets, great competitors, elegant trophies, nice venue, various free items, overall competitive vibe
dislike: waiting time back stage, run out of the free stuff before seniors get there

UCA
likes: the compition area, it's by disney world, larger lower place trophies, run pretty much on schedule
dislike:ugly jackets, warm ups in a tent, small spectator area

NCA, love everything about it. Jackets and Champions Club are fantastic and make you feel amazing when you win. Also Justin's speech "I hope you lose" in regards to the experience and enjoying the competition regardless of what place your team finishes.
Dislike how much walking I have to do
UCA, great pre-Worlds opportunity. Well run, scored well. Fun place to be
Dislike that I was told as a coach that my kids need to "figure out" sizes and was spoken to EXTREMELY RUDELY by a member of the "special events" Staff, "I'm over these kids complaining about their jacket doesn't fit, get over it and deal with it". The CHILD received an Adult Large and needed a Youth Medium. I will forever remember the way I was spoken to as a paying customer and the way a CHILD was spoken to after she WON. As a coach I stayed and made sure she received the correct size jacket. Winning isn't everything but should be appropriately rewarded.

Oh my goodness that is terrible! I hope you let UCA know about the bad experience. I know they bring a ton of people down to run all of the aspects of the competition - some of them are not full-time staff and are just paid to help out wherever they can for this one event. They would probably not have had the person back to do it next year if they knew about it. (I hope so at least.)
Did this happen this year? I am glad the little girl was able to get the right jacket, and I hope that the memory does not stick with her.

I let UCA know for sure, the experience was taken care of with the girl, she got to enjoy her win and got the right jacket.

Have not attended UCA, but was at Disney Hollywood Studios this weekend and thought how difficult it must have been to be a parent with a kid competing at Hollywood Studios and another at the Milkhouse. That's more than a hike. Would imagine it is tough on the coaching staff also.

It is tough, but fortunately UCA provides shuttles that are just for parents, coaches and athletes to use to get back and forth between the venues. They run on a constant schedule and people are able to use them to effectively get between the two places very quickly.
