I was under the impresion that this post is about complimenting a gym that has worked very hard to be where it's at and thank you Kingston and everyone for the advice on legalities. I wasn't under the impression this was about "hating" it's not why we all love the sport so much. So everyone should focus on themselves and leave topics like legalities for gt to worry about. It's about coming up with something new and different so in any case a program/gym will push the limits as we do and love to see everyone else do. (worry about yourselves). Good luck this year all.
I, as a student of the game, watch every single routine that does or might have possible relevance to this sport, at all levels. I enjoy just plain old good cheerleading, and I draw inspiration and new ideas from seeing how others interpret routines and put them on the floor. Any good coach in ANY sport watches videos about all his/her possible competition. Bill Bellachek is a perfect example. That man watches more film than anyone else, and therefor he is more prepared than anyone else. So the idea of just staying to ones self and completely forget about your competition... well thats just plain dumb. You should not coach your kids that way. Overfocussing on another team while coaching is gonna hurt you, but never be so self confident that you know it all (I learn new things everyday).
Second, this thread was NOT started as a 'Don't you just love GT' thread. It was started as a question or challenge. While maybe intended to be rhetorical, though to myself it came off as a challenge to which I answered (as I have stated MANY times) that no one is playing the Worlds scoresheet game. In fact, I was quite... matter of fact about it. When the OP got huffy, I possibly over backed up my case. I had known your stunt was illegal the first time I saw it (though in hindsight if I had not pointed it out to you you would have gone to competition and eventually had it called. At the possible latest would have been Worlds which HAS happened before) and had not planned on saying something. But, push my buttons and things happen. Let us also say I never show all my hand at one time.
So do I worry about other teams? Of course. Every single team (and the ones even not in my division) I study and watch and see what they do and possibly I could do better. That's the point of being a good coach. You make mistakes. You never stop learning. You take it and you get better.
I have NEVER said GT is not talented (cause that is a DUMB statement, and I don't like dumb statements). And yes they have a shot this year (as do quite a few teams in this division) but do not think for one minute every single thing you or anyone else does is not being double checked by your competition.
