That was a freak accident that happened in warm ups resulting in an injury, not a performance error. They are two completely different things.
1st let me say I'm not hating on Maroney, I think she is desperately needed, but that mistake is a big mistake. Idk enough about the situation to go in depth, but it does show a lack of focus in preparation at a HUGE meet.

I am confused? Nastia did get a pass. Quite frankly, I am not sure 3 weeks is enough time for her.
My point is people are quick to jump on Nastia and not criticize Maroney. Yes, she got a pass by the committee to see what she can do in 3 weeks. Who knows more about what it takes? Maroney/Liukin?

They're going to want somebody like Nastia who has that graceful 'international' look that girls like Gabby and Kyla have, but Nastia has WAY more experience and general 'focus'. Her issues were clearly more physical then mental, which can be adjusted easily. Rewiring your brain to not lose it can take months. I think Gabby is doing ADMIRABLY in that regard, but she's still a bit uncertain. Kyla had a good showing and Marta clearly likes her, but putting her on the team with that much uncertainty is a big deal. Worlds is a big deal, but not everyone there was at their absolute prime, and some didn't even show (Mustafina, out with an injury, was Ponor there? She's looking AWESOME). They will take Aly, but I swear to all that is sacred someone needs to FIX. HER. FORM. Drives me crazy..

Someone could always 'pull a Russia' and 'get injured' so Maroney can compete on vault..lol

Even with Nastia not "floating" like she used to, she had a 15.1 day 1, and it was shaky. That's among the higher beam scores of the competition (if I remember correctly, Aly's was highest at a 15.45?) and ignoring mistakes, Nastia looks better on bars than even Gabby Douglas will ever. There's 3 weeks till Olympic Trials, and if Nastia can prove that she's improved by then, even with a bad showing, I'm sure Marta will put her on the team, keep in mind there's another 4 weeks between Trials and the actual games.
Gabby blew me away on bars day 2. I think her execution score was FAR too low. I have never liked her as a gymnast, and I think she only really contributes on floor and bars, but I am 99.9% positive she'll make the team.
Aly Raisman and Jordyn are shoe-ins. Aly is the most consistent gymnast America has right now, and when Jordyn's on, she's the best all-around gymnast on Earth to me.
Alicia looked AMAZING on beam and vault. She looks exactly like the Alicia that was so darn good in 08.
Kyla Ross.. I just... I can't like her. Honestly I highly doubt she'd be able to handle the pressure of the Olympics. She needs to be put as an alternate and have her moment in 2016. I see her as being a big contender for the all-around in 2016.
carolinagirl823 Nastia has only been doing THAT ROUTINE for about a week, not that she hasn't been working bars at all, or possibly another routine. We don't know if she had another routine planned for this meet and changed it last minute.
Oh and Maroney. I can see America taking 2, at most, two-event specialists (Gabby will only really do FX and UB, Alicia VT and BB, Nastia UB and BB, and I'm assuming Ross would only be used for UB and BB), and I highly doubt Marta is stupid enough to give a spot to Maroney who only contributes enough on VT. Granted, her VT scores will help the team overall a LOT, but that's really the only one she would help on.

So after watching all of the videos....I've come to the conclusion that Jordyn could kill me with one poke. That girl is beyond muscular..

Uhhh, did you watch her fall? It wasn't a lack of focus, it was a bit of extra energy and a back takeoff angle... It was a complete fluke.

Exactly. I haven't seen Maroney fall before it was just too much power. I am almost positive she'll be on the Olympic team if she has a good showing at trials. She's too worthy for them I think she could be the only specialist they chose.

I doubt they'd pick a vault specialist when their 2 lowest scores are bars and beam. That's the only reason I don't think Maroney should make the team.

I don't consider Maroney a specialist. She has good start values on everything, and personally I find her more fit to make the team than Kyla Ross, Nastia, or any of the former Olympians. Plus she was the only vaulter that didn't take a huge step this weekend. She also has experience at international competitions, and she does take pressure very well, unlike some of the other girls.

She has high start values, but look at the scores from day 1 of competition, 13 something on bars, and 14 something on both beam and floor. Those aren't competitive scores internationally by any means.
