All-Star 2013-2014 New Uniforms

(I feel like I've posted about acro+tumbling in about 5 threads on here in the last hour, but I just have a lot of thoughts after watching the meet! Sorry if I'm boring anyone :D)

What are people's thoughts on the A+T uniform? They typically wear nike pro style shorts with a tight fitting shirt and nike free shoes or normal cheer shoes.

My thought was - do you think the sport would ultimately be hurt or helped by the introduction of athletic style uniforms, minimal make up and minimal hair (most girls wear ponytails with braids etc)?

As much as we would want to make a change - allstar is associated with glitz and glamour with the uniforms, hair and make up.

Would the number of people who would be attracted to the sport because of the athletic appearance outnumber the people that would leave/not be attracted to the sport because they enjoy the glamour of it? (I can think of many a cheerleader that is only on their team for the uniform)

I love the A&T uniforms. I wouldn't mind if we headed in that direction, but I don't think our routines would match the uniform.

I think cheer would benefit from having A&T style uniforms and I've been hoping that they make an appearance in cheer for a while now. They're athletic looking and I think they let the girls show off their skills without a huge amount of focus being on their uniforms, how amazing their abs are, giant poofs, etc. With the ridiculousness of current "uniforms", I would love it if cheer headed towards more acro style uniforms. I think it would make cheer look much more athletic/actually like a sport and could help improve the image of all star.

Side note: I have a nike free addiction. They're so comfortable and really light compared to most other sneakers. I wouldn't mind tumbling in them.

If we took a slight detour from the direction we've been heading towards A&T style, I wouldn't mind it.

I think ultimately allstar will end up somewhere between a balance of the obnoxiously over-the-top pageantry we've been dealing with and the sleek, low-key athleticism of A&T. Something that emphasizes the effort and grit, but still has a touch of theatrics (even if it's just a bit of makeup/touch of glitter).

i doubt anyone would be surprised to hear i am 100% for a move towards A&T style uniforms. actually, i wish there was a youth counterpart for the entire sport. i do not have any children at the moment, but if i did, i would not feel comfortable signing them up for all star cheer in its current state. i would, however, sign them up for a sport that focuses on technique and perfection of skills versus who has on more makeup and sparkles. (granted, A&T is new and all of the current athletes have come from either cheer or gymnastics, so not completely sure how a youth counterpart would work with teaching them the skills)

nike actually sells cheerleading uniforms. i've seen a handful of high schools with them and i love them, though i understand that they aren't "all star" and why people would not like them.

We shouldn't have to ditch bows, pretty uniforms, and big hair to become a sport/be seen as athletic. Ditch impractical uniforms, yes, but they can be pretty. Nobody's going to see us as a sport when at least half of us can't wear a proper sports bra with their uniform. But if a uniform is practical why can't it be glitzy too. If it's not holding you back/causing problems to the point where you can't do athletic things, why should we have to change it? Having a bow on my head doesn't keep me from doing a back tuck so why should I have to take it off? To please the outsiders? No thanks.
We can look pretty and be athletic at the same time, but the rest of the world doesn't understand that. They're still struggling with the fact that women can be athletes and also care about what they look like, because for a long time female athletes couldn't do the glitz, pretty dresses and hair, makeup stuff if they wanted to be accepted as legitimate athletes. But in the allstar cheer world, we know we're awesome athletes, even though the rest of the world just sees big hair and sparkle. We can't back down from that, it's giving in to the people who are stuck in the past.

A small gym in the Charlotte area (I think this is their first or second season, not sure). Saw this posted online so figured it was okay to post. I believe they are neon yellow, silver mystic and white.

Call me crazy, but I seriously love their colors. Just wish Trinity was bigger and in white!

A bow wouldn't necessarily get in the way of a football player, basketball player or soccer player doing their job. Why don't they wear them? It isn't necessary to their sport. And its not necessary to ours. Neither quite frankly is mesh, mystic, 10ft tall poofs and make up so thick you can see their face. (I know you didn't mention those, just using your point as a jump off)

I don't think the change would be to necessarily please others, as you put it, but "others" probably don't care. I would like to see a change happen to further legitimize Cheerleading as a sport. Lets be honest - even the plainest of poof, bow and uniform would be too much to someone who doesn't know our sport.

I think that Cheerleading is an incredible activity but if we want to be considered more of a sport - which would allow expansion and further opportunities for the athletes - I think that the current adopted 'style' is seriously holding us back.

I think Stingray Allstars are a perfect example of this?!
