I am having a debate with someone over these photos. I am willing to bet if these photos had appeared in Playboy the general public consensus would be outrage and "I can't believe this money grubbing tramp sold out for nude photis". I could care less if anyone poses nude, but she still did the exact same thing other woman get crucified for doing yet now is being considered "brave". And I would buy the argument of doing it to show "body flaws" more if she wasn't airbrushed and photoshhopped. Although there are some differences in body positioning versus what you typically see in Playboy, she got paid to pose nude. Some mastermind at ESPN just got people to buy in that it is "art" versus porn.
"You are only responsible for being honest, not for someone else's reaction to your honesty."
I get what you're saying. I don't know how to change the way people think though. Our society, in general, is way too judgmental about everything. No one can be praised without someone else being extremely critical of them.
Personally, I don't really care who poses nude and under what circumstances. If it's something you wanna do, go for it. We all have the same bits anyways - I don't see why the human body is so taboo in western culture anyways. (I partially blame organized religion.)
But in aly's case, I like that it showcases the fact that she doesn't have a typical feminine body. She has a very athletic, bulky, muscular body and she's comfortable with it and it looks the way it does so she can do what she wants to do. I think that's a great message to send to everyone.
Also, IMO, anyone who poses nude in playboy, ESPN, or even goes to a nude beach is 700% braver than I am. I am not that comfortable with my body and I'll applaud them lol.
As for the photoshopped part, you wouldn't believe how many things come across my desk to be photoshopped these days. And I'm not just talking about people. It doesn't make it ok but it's the norm and as much as I'd like to see it changed, I don't think it ever will. It's really astounding this fake reality we all chase after.
