To take the attention away from the new stupid rule, if you don't follow Laney on Instagram, she posted a video of some of her mess ups at practice and it's hysterical. I highly suggest watching. Definitely made my morning.

(Clarification: They aren't those falls where you're cringing and screaming "why do people think this is funny!?!" It's like lighthearted funny.)

some of the stuff she's training is maaaad impressive

Dowell Defers for World Championships - Oklahoma Sooners

Brenna Dowell is making an elite comeback!! I'm really excited and interested to see what her routines will look like. Hopefully her floor choreo and music will improve because it's always been pretty bad, but her tumbling is super good. Her bars in 2013 and 2014 were really exciting so I hope she becomes more consistent and cleans up on that event. If she can get her Amanar back I'd say she has a pretty good shot at making the 2015 Worlds Team.

The first ever European Games have just begun, it seems like most countries have chosen not to send their best gymnast with the exception of maybe Ukraine and Russia, both Mustafina and Komova will be competing... they're looking pretty solid so far:

ETA: By the way, all sporting events can be viewed live via their YouTube Channel (Baku 2015 European Games).

I can't believe only one athlete per country's allowed to make the finals for all-around and each individual apparatus. Which means Komova is basically done for this games...
Aliya Mustafina
Floor qualifications/Team finals:

Absolutely love her pirouette combinations.

Balance Beam qualifications/Team finals:

Vault qualifications/Team finals:

Not an Amânar, but a very solid landing and it seems like a twisting form has sort of improved.

Her LEGS in the still frame of the floor routine video. I CAN'TTTTTT.

Viktoria Komova
Floor qualifications/team finals:

It was heartbreaking watching her step out of bounds twice and have such a short landing on her double layout, but overall a pretty solid floor routine. She still has one of the most elegant body lines on any gymnast (I mean, look at that beautiful arch in her feet!!); growing taller does have its advantages...

Balance Beam qualifications/Team finals:

She's finally fighting to stay on again, has her fire been reignited? Again, absolutely beautiful lines.

Vault qualifications/Team finals:

Uneven Bars qualifications/Team finals:

She has grown so much! It makes her lines even more beautiful.

Seda Tutkhalyan
Balance Beam qualification/Team finals:

She outscored both Komova and Mustafina on beam earning her spot in the finals for the apparatus. She's like this ball of energy just swiftly moving across the beam, love her round-off layout full.

Her left knee is just stubborn I guess... it's definitely less flexed that it was before, but still flexed.
Wasn't that the one she blew out a while back as well? I totally understand favoring it. Silly tumbling injuries from forever ago still have me favoring one knee over the other in day to day stuff without even realizing it.

Komova did a double layout and her ankles are still there like how??
But so happy she is back hopefully we will see her in Rio

Komova's beam was my favorite - even w/ the bobbles her connections are insane. That straight leg turn right into the front aeriel then into a sheep jump - dang would that be hard. Mustafina's landing after that pass at ~1:00 into her floor - wow - many gymnasts can't land that controlled out of a single full and she's doing it out of a crazy pass like that.

... alas, no elite gymnastics competition at an international level is complete without some controversy regarding score discrepancies. Did Steingruber's second foot step out the performance area? Should Mustafina been credited with a Gomez instead of a Memmel for her leg hold piroutte? We'll never know.

Mustafina adding turn right at the end is hilarious. She is the boss :D I love her. But not more than I love Komova. Komova is my girl.
