I've been so behind on anything gymnastics related that it was through a YouTube comment I found out Catalina Ponor recently came out of retirement. I've always loved her floor and beam routines, she has the most elegant leg lines and overall just exudes artistry when she performs:

Also, it's nice to see more female gymnast in their 20s still training competitively. I'm hoping with proper training techniques = longer career span of a gymnast. Though, Ponor has been out of the game for awhile now, so I'll keep my excitement contained.... still recovering from Nastia 2012.

Again, I'm behind , but another one of my favourite floor specialist who's also in her 20s - Ksenia Afanasyeva. She's no power house like Simone Biles, but I have so much appreciation for the exquisite form of her leaps and turns. Definitely a podium contender for Worlds, and potentially, Rio:

That was a beautiful floor routine! Great leaps and turns like you said.

I was excited to hear about Katalina Ponor too - she's one of my all time favorites on beam and floor.

So the European Championships are happening and here are recordings of some of my favourites:
Maria Kharenkova (RUS)

I feel like she's one of Russia's more promising younger generation gymnast, I love her on beam and the floor. She placed second in AA after Giulia Steingruber. And if anyone is curious, because I certainly was, her floor music is "Schwarze Augen(Dark Eyes)" by André Rieu.

Giulia Steingruber (SUI)

A very powerful tumbler, but I feel she weighs down too hard on the floor sometimes. Congratulations to her on first place for the AA though.

Claudia Fragapane (GBR)

A fan favourite and hopeful for the British.

Vanessa Ferrari (ITA)

I miss her previous floor music and routine so much, but I'm starting to warm up to this one. That double pike at the end though..... otherwise, I do enjoy the energy she brings.

Ksenia Afanasyeva (RUS)

That second vault was scary, but definitely still one of my favourite floor specialist.

This YouTube channel posted recordings of other European gymnast as well, feel free to check them out.

That Claudia's floor routine was MUCH better than the last time I saw her do it - think it was at the American cup and she fell on pretty much every pass. Amazing passes when hit - especially the double layout at the very end (the stamina that must take). That kinda was cool how she just landed on her feet when she missed that release move on bars - I guess a benefit of being so tiny ;).

I've loved watching Ellie/Ellisa Downie (younger sister of Becky Downie, if anyone recognises the name) this past weekend for team GBR- placed 3rd in the All Around competition behind Steingruber and Kharenkova.

This is her first year in Seniors, but about 4/5 weeks ago she wasn't even hopeful for this Europeans team, did amazingly at the British Champs and look at her now!!

Also, sorry for the double post, but if anyone was wondering, Larisa Iordache is not attending the European Championships because she has high school exams.

That's right people, even an elite gymnast puts school first, so you better too as cheerleaders. ;)

I thought it must have been something else, throughout the British tv coverage of the All Around the commentators kept telling us that Komova and Iordache were both injured and rehabbing; I thought that was the case for Komova but didn't think Iordache was injured!!
Get yo facts right bbc!

I'm almost certain Komova isn't injured (she's mostly recovered from an old injury), I heard it's because she's not ready to compete her vaults and floor routine yet. We'll see her at the World Championships for sure, so excited for that...... also hoping to see Catalina Ponor.
